Retro Keys - New from Waves Factory

I just picked up Wavesfactory's new product Retro Keys for the intro price of €9.95. http://www.wavesfactory.com/retrokeysi.php

There are a couple of sampled Crumar products, the Compact Piano which sounds a little like an RMI. I think the "Clavichord" sound is the most usable, having a nice bite to the sound in quirky 1970's electronic piano way. Orchestrator is another 70's String and Brass synth giving an alternative the Solana sounds that normally get sampled while remaining very retro.

The Organ X55, an Elka "clonewheel" organ is a nice suprise. All the drawbars are variable and percussion is available 8, 5 1/3, 4, 2 2/3 and 2 ft on the upper keyboard which makes it quite versatile. The percussion is only available when playing stacatto, which is fine, but its a bit odd that holding a note on the lower keyboard prevents the precussion triggering on the upper.

If you are into retro keyboards is worth the asking price.

I actually started to write a post about this but deleted it after I heard the audio demos.

I'm generally a fan of Wavesfactory and have several of their libraries. But as I listened to these I was unable to imagine any scenario in which I'd find them useful, except maybe a sound track for a send-up of bad sci-fi movies from the 60's. "Cheesy" is the word that comes to mind. They authentically recreate everything I hated about most electronic instruments from that era, and I actually had an Elka string synthesizer back in the day.

But I suppose somebody more imaginative than me could find a use for them. My advice is listen to the demos before making a decision. And then maybe get the Tea Towel Drums instead.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Agree Bit, ol pal. Cheesy...and better had by other folks. Sound dust comes to mind, among others.

The Piano and Orchestrator are very cheesy, not a Camembert but Kraft cheese slices. They deserve the caution Dave recommended. The organ on the other hand is a nice ripe Gorganzola. I can see me using it particularly when I want a different percussive tonewheel sound. YMMV
