[Solved] Lengthening Clips

Since I never use other people's clips and loops, I am a novice in this regard and may be using the wrong terminology, but here goes:

•  I drag in a clip/loop from the Cakewalk library browser.
•  By using the Smart tool, I can drag the right edge to make the clip longer (that is, to repeat for more measures).
•  The problem is that I don't know how to make that dragging/looping stop exactly where I want.

I have been just dragging it more than I want and then using the split tool to chop off the extra, but I will bet there is an easier way.

Thanks!

Konrad

hey konrad,
adjusting your snap settings should take care of this.  i usually bounce the clip afterwards so any stretching artifacts are smoothed out.

best,

For one thing, you don't have to split the clip and delete the excess. Once you know where the end point is you can just grab the right end of the loop and drag it back to the end point (if it's an acid/groove clip).

Unless you know in advance the exact length you're going to need the clip, I don't see any alternative.

Thanks, guys.  I don't use this frequently but do have a "world" drum loop that would work well with one of my songs.

Not sure if this applies but just the other day I discovered that one can adjust an audio note or phrase in a clip (once it is  split out or isolated) by pressing CTRL while placing the cursor at the beginning  or end of the note  or phrase you want to modify and dragging  one way or the other until the length is properly adjusted.  This work OK for small incremental adjustments but will introduce artifacts if the modification is great.

Just to add to the above, set the Snap mode to "Snap To" and not "Snap By" so that the clip ends where you click. Assuming that your Snap resolution is set accordingly, of course.
