Thanks. I probably should have chose a different heading for the post . I really do understand comping and take lanes but the issue is (and the video didn't address this) is when using the auto punch feature the takes get muted in a strange way where even when you click on them to audition they are still muted (and the wave form changes to the "outlined" display) as opposed to just the whole clip being greyed out. If I don't use auto punch it all works as shown in the video.
So maybe I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be. Is there another way to use auto punch but at the same time having the part you are replacing NOT play while you are playing over it (if I'm replacing a section of a guitar solo I don't want to hear the messed up part but I do want to hear what is before and after it)? In other words I would like to just mute the section of the clip I am working on within the original clip (not mute the whole clip). When I use the mute previous track function is when I get that weird behavior explained above. Sorry its kind of hard to describe in words but hopefully makes sense.
