right channel lost when using other media players simultanusly with a DAW playbk/rec

Good evening Noiz broz
help me out , cause I going insanee... The problem is as follows ..

system ..
-Windows XP SP3
-Sonar 8 / Cubase 5 / Vegas 10
-Tascam 1884 Firewire
-Monitor Speakers Yamaha HS 80
-Drivers: ASIO (I downloaded the last few)

When in windows I just use/run a multimedia player ie  Winamp / Windows Media Player / VLC / Youtube / flashplayer
I get stero sound as expected on both monitor speakers (left and right)..so far so good
Also when running only DAW on the pc, ie I work a project in Sonar, Playback and Recording gives properly stereo sound to both two speakers ...and again so far so good ...
But as soon as I open simultaneously DAW (eg Sonar) with a player (eg Winamp) and I put a song in Winamp to play, and go to the DAW (Sonar) to also use Playback or Rec, the sound from the Player (Winamp) loses a channel, the right channel of the Song is lost / disappears. So I can not for example put a song in Winamp to play it / hear it, and simultaneously write eg a guitar solo ('over' the song) in the Sonar, basically like using the song as a 'driver' to play music on top of... Why do I lose this one right channel?? I tried also with vegas and cubase and also get this problem just as I get it no matter the multimedia player used(winamp , vlc , windows media player etc etc)

I know I can import the 'driver song' to a new track tin Sonar as a 'solution' ...but I really want to be able to have simultaneously stereo sound at the same time both from the Daw and from the music player (ie winamp / youtube) ...
I tried to change the drivers used inside Sonar , tried : Asio, WDM, MME32bit.
Only with MME32 somehow it got to work but not workable solution (stereo sound is coming out both speakers simultaneously with playback both from Sonar and Winamp or playback from Winamp while Recording in Sonar.. But the sound does come out as sh*t not playing realtime and crap quality and I get a Dropout notification/alert in Sonar..plus I want to be able to work with the Asio drivers ..
In Win XP it seems to have always been like this and never got to solve this problem but I think in Windows 7 (if I remember correctly) that I had solved it ..But I wanna fix it in XP ...
Any ideas?
Thank you very in advance

PS The Win management device panel I have/get a yellow warning light / question mark.
In 'Other devices', the 'multimedia audio controller' and 'sound device on the High Definition Audio BUS' have yellow question mark.

You can try setting the Preference
    - Audio - Playback and Recording
check "share drivers with other programs"

I think I did set mine before and it works, but currently my setup is no checked as I do not run other audio software at the same time with Sonar.

From what I 've read , ASIO generally doesn't like sharing its drivers with other programs, but try out what tomixornot has said (I personally haven't tried that out though). I usually just import the song into sonar and use Sonar's engine.

Ho ho ho hold on.... are you using your Tascam as a sound source/interface for both DAW and media player?  Are you trying to capture the sound from the media player into your DAW?  If the answers to these questions are both "yes", then try using your PC's internal sound card for the media player.  As said above, you cannot use two audio devices under the ASIO driver.  However, DO NOT check the box for "share driver with other programs".  When that option is active, whatever program is going to utilize the ASIO driver takes exclusive control of the sound, so your DAW (SONAR in this case) will not produce any sound if not in focus while your media player is in playback.  That is, this option to share driver is kind of a contradiction in logic (what is the word for that, "oxymoron?").  What this actually does is it allows SONAR to give up the audio driver so that another program/app can use it, thus the "share with".  It does not mean that both apps can use the driver simultaneously.  It would probably be better stated as "allow SONAR to maintain exclusive control over the driver" instead.

This means that the device has been disabled either because it was manually done or there is a driver error or it is missing.  Typically, when using a DAW users will disable all other audio devices so that there is no hardware conflict regarding sound/driver.

Installed X3 in September.  And now when using X3 and opening IE sonar loses I/O audio.

This does not happen with 8.5.3.  Have not tested with X1, X2.

I often record from browsers through the audio device into sonar. So I have to use 8.5 to do so and then open the project in X3.

And I do open Win media player to check wav files.

This is a way annoying when wanting to use the online help.

The root of the issue is a Sample rate miss match. The MP3 will not match the setting you have in Sonar. You need to drop the song into Sonar so it can be converted to the sample rate that your using.

As stated, it is best to use your on board sound for all other tasks. And only an on board sound card will have the "what you hear"  record option. Use it and drop the track into Sonar, sorry if you think that's so inconvenient, one can't everything when it's all free. You have to do a reality check on the fact that your actually stealing the music and not paying for it. Think about all that money your saving as you take the 3 minutes to record the song in real time.
