[Solved] Any suggestions for an digital AES to Spdif cable

I need a digital cable from AES connection to Spdif connection.  I can switch the AES output to spdif specification.  I don't mind spending money, but I don't want to waste it (ie. I don't think gold sputtered unobtainium is in the cards).

Anybody with experience have any ideas?  Also, I have an Amazon card left over from a birthday, if that helps.

If you just need a short patch cable you don't need to worry about getting the correct spec cable and phono plug.  Just build one from your spare parts bin...  You do have a spare parts bin don't you?

All I'm basically saying is cut one end off a phono - phono lead and solder on an XLR.  If you can find an old phono - phono video cable, even better (correct impedance)

Thanks Karyn.  I do have several stashes of old cables and what not.  I know there are impedance differences, didn't know that digital was like analog and fairly indifferent to short runs (1/5 ft to 3 ft is fine).

Still open to other, straight up buy suggestions since I'm both lazy and busy. ;-)  Guitar Center is right around the corner but I hate paying their premiums on cables.  Lazy busy and cheap.

Thanks Karyn.  I do have several stashes of old cables and what not.  I know there are impedance differences, didn't know that digital was like analog and fairly indifferent to short runs (1/5 ft to 3 ft is fine).

AES uses twisted pairs and XLRs like a standard balanced audio lead.  S/PDIF uses 75 ohm coax and RCA (phono) plugs, just like old composite video leads (the ones with yellow plugs).

If you cut the end off an old video lead and solder on an XLR it will be fine.  You shouldn't really be using S/PDIF for long runs anyway,  that's what AES/EBU was invented for, but a short run for device interconnects is no problem.

You may find it hard to get a pre-made lead.  AES and S/PDIF are not meant to be interconnected directly.

$6.50 - what came with my L22. I've used them with 10-15' xlr cables without problems.

    fwrend,

I finally found them, but I had to google spdif to XLR, not AES.  Funny.  But thanks for the info.  I ordered some, but had already bought 1 analog balanced cable w/ the proper adaptors which seems to work fine, too.  This of course is about a foot run, which helps.

Thanks all, and sorry I didn't have to get out my soldering gun, Karyn.
