[Resolved] X3e + Superior Drummer = Endless frustration

Hey folks,

Wondering if anyone has success running X3e (build 152) and Superior 2.4.0 (9314) with any degree of stability ?

Loading old drum tracking templates results in a crash (CWBRN-29466). Trying to build a new one from scratch results in a crash (CWBRN-29664).

Environment is x64, Windows 8.1, all software legit and up to date.

Confused because before my recent HD crash (1month ago, full reinstall on new drive) X3 and Superior were kicking serious ass. Guess something serious is amiss, although my backup DAW, Reaper, seems solid enough but I've not put much time in to be honest.

If you got this far, thanks for reading. Just wanna get back to music tonight!

Cheers, C.

I did not perform the 2.4.0 upgrade, still running Superior Drummer 64bit 2.3.2 here on X3e. Superior Drummer has never crashed X3e for me. Also on Win7 but I doubt that matters.

Just checked my update backup library, found 2.3 and 2.4 versions so that suggests I must have recently upgraded. Perhaps I did so absent mindedly when doin the reinstall.

Will try 2.3 right away and repeat the two crash procedures. Scientist coat and clipboards at the ready...

Hmm, I've not yet installed the 2.4 update. Maybe I won't for while...I'm running 8.5, but I'd be surprised if this issue is specific to X3. More likely a Toontrack problem.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Alrighty, tried v2.3.2 of Superior. Still crashes on save once I've done the barebones setup for a template. Real twilight zone stuff this, sent another report to the bakers. Fingers crossed.

The only time I can remember Sonar and Superior Drummer not playing well together was with a memory starved machine.  If I loaded a large kit, Sonar and SD2 seemed to want to fight over the little bit of RAM I had and SD2 would win.  Then SONAR would quit and go home.

I'm not saying you have a memory deficient machine but maybe limiting the kit size in the SD2 configuration and trying it out might eliminate this as a possibility.

I'm using SD2 with the latest version on my primary maching. However, it is Windows 7 64bit and 8GB of RAM. I use SD2 on almost every project with no issues. I use it a lot too. I usually use kits no larger than the kit it comes with. Recently, I put SD2 on a Windows 8.1 16GB RAM computer. This is a work computer that I only use to work on patterns. I'll fool with it more to see if I have any issues.

Superior has always been one of the most stable VSTis in sonar for me. If there is an issue it's probably with the latest update or something unrelated like a disk problem.

Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

SD 2.4 and Win7 64 bit here and no problems, (although I have only recently moved up to X3).

Ok finally nailed it - turned out it wasnt Superior Drummer, just the saving of a project / template with a MIDI track present. Removed RME drivers, installed latest version and double checked Sonar MIDI settings.

Stable so far!

Appreciate everyone's input, back to the music now...Would mark this thread [Resolved] if I knew how.
