Airport
https://soundcloud.com/aaudiomystiks/airport Here's a track I did for my Honours project, the sounds for this track were all gathered from the airport boarding lounge and café just before the boarding lounge. I've used a granular synth to create the all the synth sounds and all the grains were from the airport field recordings. I've played the whole track into Sonar using the Yourock midi guitar. Notice there is some cool looping going on in the breakdown and the 6/4 section, the audio snap palate was invaluable here and I think you get a real Pink Floyd loop feel. The idea of an octave bass riff came from the Pink Floyd track Careful With That Axe Eugene, it is an avant-garde idea...an octave bass riff...or as George Harrison once said "avant got a clue" The track is really a sonic painting of the Café outside an airport boarding lounge, the ominous sound of boarding calls, calling you to your fate...maybe. And if you listen carefully the news reader at the boarding gate can be heard mentioning flight MH370. Ok back to work...Fugue no2 is on the way. Ben

That's pretty cool. And has a small, somewhat familiar feeling. Maybe that's because I've done a lot of flying.

It's amazing how you can turn an ordinary day into a clever song. I always love it when someone sees things in an entirely different way and can translate that into something I can relate to. On the technical side, I would like to hear a little more variation or range in the dynamics of the parts, but otherwise I'd leave this alone.

Thanks Josh, Thanks Lynn, basically I've figured out I'm an impressionist Lynn. This means I look at the world and I can communicate whatever I see, or I take the ordinary and mundane and see the colours and light...or this is what impressionism is. It's a Van Gough thing I suppose but I do it with sound. At the moment I'm writing a second Fugue with the idea of bus stops. Life is just a series of bus stops. If I can be bothered I will go and gather some video of empty bus stops and create a video fugue. Yep I'm a little pretentious. Ben

It could be the Pink Floyd link...Pink Floyd use the octave bass line three times off the top of my head. Carful With That Axe, See Emily Play and Goodbye Cruel World. Ben

A bit ambient and techno for my tastes. And that lead instrument felt a little shrill. No disrespect, but I'm sure you want honest feedback from everyone.

Yep, that's the idea. Techno...interesting since it was based on Pink Floyd...maybe the synth sound. I agree the synth can be a little toppy. Thanks. Ben

I like the sparseness of this track. You can really see the black backdrop behind the music in this. Almost feel it. After the dense layers I heard in last night's 'Tangerine Dream' concert I found this so totally different.

This is like a minimalistic masterpiece. Very nice airy atmosphere. I might have used a bit lower bass tone but it's good like it is. kakku

I think this is one of the better things I've from you, Ben. It has structure and melody, but is still anything but "normal".

Thanks Steve, I'm not neurotypical so yea not normal. I'm a restless creative, and I have the musical lexicon now to really create what I feel and see. This can be done from practicing a certain scale, oh that sounds like death, hurt, pain...happiness, this then can be translated using my music tech skills into crazy music. Thanks Ben

Always something different from you. This is a very interesting tune. I tried to put myself in that airport and decided to run away. Chuckle.

very well done and clever Ben. Love when the distortion kicks in - is that meant to be the part when you realize that Airport sandwiches are three times the price of anywhere else? :)

Thanks Daryl actually I think its the 5 dollar coffee...literally. If we are taking about the same spot, it literally is the coffee machine noise, in the café, put into a granular synth and played as a guitar. Cheers Ben

Very good! When you listen to it you really get into airport atmosphere and hear it story. I'm sure it can be even more expressive with video. I like it very much!

Padshop, by Cubase...very cool synth but to get that guitar sound you need the Yourock guitar or some other midi guitar controller. Thanks for listening Serge, yea a video would be cool, I'm doing a lot of video art these days as well. Ben

LOL I remember that Floyd tune from UmmaGumma. It evokes not only Floyd but the Spent Poets as well (and if you know THEM you're in a small minority). I don't know why, but John Cage also comes to mind. Intriguing.
