Anybody Using Frontier TranzPort with SONAR and Windows 8?

Frontier Design no longer sells the TranzPort and hasn't updated drivers since Windows 7. Is it safe to assume the TranzPort won't run on Windows 8? I need a new PC, but would hate to give up my TranzPort. Should I get Windows 7 on the new PC while I still can?

I am currently using Frontier Tranzport with Windows 8.1 and Sonar 8. I have experienced absolutely zero problems with it. Proceed with confidence.

I'm using it on Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit version  (and Win 7).  However, I had to install it in a compatibility mode in Win 8.  I don't remember if I used Vista or Windows 7 compatibility mode.

I had to use windows 7 compatibility mode back when I first installed it on a new windows 8.0 machine.
Still working with windows 8.1 update.

Just to add, Sonar X3 and all my recording hardware works exactly the same on Win 8.1 as it does on Win 7.
Back last January, my Win 7 system was down for warranty repair (actually replacement) of the motherboard.  I used my backup system which is Win 8.1 and I never missed a beat.

a second appreciation... I just built a new DAW, win8.1, and I was able to install the Tranzport driver using compatibility mode, but several of the buttons do not work. At first this seemed to coincidental, but having read this thread I guess my poor Tranzport has chosen this time to start to fail.

Not thrilled at all, but I guess I'm going to have to start looking at Tablet computer solutions.

This is all reassuring to me, as I am in the process of building a new DAW running Win 8.1. So thanks for bringing up the subject. The Tranzport is still on the to-do list at the moment, but I'd be seriously bummed if I had to give it up.

Yeah, I agree it would be hard to do without the Tranzport. Dave, you mention building a new DAW. Can I ask what you're doing for hardware? I would love to buy something from one of the custom DAW builders, but I'm afraid my budget is going to drive me to a commodity box like Dell or HP. If I had the expertise to select all my own components, I'd build my own but . . .

Note that the Tranzport mapping was coded for pre Sonar X versions (ie: Sonar 8.5 and lower).
The EQ mapping won't match up with the prochannel EQ.
I only use it for the start/stop/rec when behind the drums and also channel fader automation writing.

Me too, I have one and have not tried it with the new DAW. I'm glad it works!

You can get a Studiocat Pro tower with upgrades for less than 1500 last time I checked. 1250 if you want to add your own drives, less I think if you already have your OS.
    It matters... I think.

No one cares, but my old AlphaTrack works in 8.1 just fine. I can't plug it into the monitor though. I have to plug it into as USB2 port on the PC itself. No idea why (except the monitor supports USB 3).

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I just put a new tower in my studio running Win 7 with Sonor 4. I installed the win 7 drivers for my Tranzport, and Sonor sees it but when I press play on the Tranzport , or some other buttons on the Tranzport it triggers a midi note of what ever midi channel is selected on my Sonor. Is Sonor 4 to old to work with the Tranzport in Win 7 ? Or can anyone help me with a solution ?

The Tranzport should have no problem with SONAR 4, which merely sees it as another MIDI controller. The problem is the Tranzport driver is too old for Windows 7. However, many people have been able to make it work in compatibility mode.

Tranzport also needs to be installed properly, of course. You should have a file named Tranzport.dll in \program files\cakewalk\shared surfaces. You should also have the Tranzport applet running in your task bar (check your startup options if not). You'll want to right-click on that applet and choose Native mode (close SONAR first).

That's all I remember, sorry. The last time I saw my beloved Tranzport was when I moved from XP to Win 8. It never worked again. (sob)

I am still using my TranzPort with many "current" apps including the latest SPlat (Lexi) x64 & REAPER 5.11 x64. So it surely should work with any previous versions. Going almost 10 years now and it has worked in every Win OS I've migrated to since XP (Win 7, 8, 8.1 & 10). Any OS's past Win 7, I've just made sure I had "Win 7" or maybe even "Vista" compatibility mode and "Administrator Privileges" enabled in the TranzPort installer properties page before installation. Many of us (users like "fireberd") have it working fine right now in Win 10.

That's certainly encouraging, BB. Unfortunately, I've not had such luck. I've tried every compatibility mode, but it either doesn't work at all or it bluescreens Windows.

If Frontier were to do the right thing, they'd release the source into the public domain and let somebody else update it. Or let some Chinese manufacturer, maybe Behringer, revive the product. I'd pay for a usable driver.

    Same here.

And Mixbus 3 64bit. And Studio One 3.

    All in win 10 64bit.

And my new Fader Port works in all four apps as well.
