Hmm... 50% Off on the AD2 Upgrade email offer
But if I wait until I upgrade to X4 would I not get AD2 included? Toontrack is keeping me pretty happy. But it's only $40... Hmm... What would you do? I wonder how good my willpower is? Those Faifax drums are pretty appealing. I saw "Sound City" doc... What if I die before X4 is out? I'll miss out on AD2 completely. $40 is a tank of gas in my Corolla... Maybe X4 will not be that great? Maybe it will be subscription based... ..won't be doing that. However, if someone told me AD2 is not included in X4 then maybe...

I don't believe there is any reason to assume that AD2 will be included with X4. It may or may not. But as Bluzdog says there will always be more Sales. You jump when it feels right.

Hmmm, makes me wish I'd signed up to the newsletter. Is it a personalized offer or a generic code?

I was a little peeved when they included AD2 a month after I upgraded. It was an $80 upgrade for thoughts that didn't wait. For $40 I jumped at this. Who know when X4 comes out or what will be included in the upgrade by this time next year.

You guys are all great and thanks for your input.
All joking aside, I left out that the Addictive people, XLN, emailed me a survey a couple weeks ago. They wanted to know why I didn't upgrade. To TheStringMaster's point, I told them I didn't think it was fair that I didn't get a free upgrade because I bought X3 about 20 days too soon but I understand cutoffs.
Secondly, Bluzdog is right. This sale will come around again because XLN needs me to upgrade so I will have use for all the new AD2 libraries.
Most of all, Toontrack is an awesome product. I pick up libraries for $39!!! They sound great and 16bit is fine for my use, especially since I'm aways trying to get the digital sharpness out of everything.
No, I don't need a tank of gas but to put in perspective, I bought Melda's AutoDynamicEQ on sale for $63. That is one of the best plugins I own. So spending $40 on drums, I may or may not use, doesn't make much sense.
So there you have it, NO to the 50% off upgrade. We'll see what X4 has for us.

What do you get with the upgrade, do you get a full Fairfax 1 kit. I upgraded to X3 in a funny window, where the they were just about to release the AD2, so gave me the upgrade free. Many users seemed to get Fairfax1 full kit with their upgrade, whereas I just got a partial kit. I think because essentially I was getting the latest AD2 with my x3 upgrade. If you get the full fairfax1 kit, then I recon, go for it. If not then I'd wait for a better offer. Keep an eyes on cclarry's posts in the deals section. He posted at the weekend an offer on the artists pack for around 99 dollors (pluginboutique.com), which was 2 kits, 2 kit pieces, 2 midi packs. After spending several tring to decide which 2 of each, I saw he had another post for the Fairfax 1 and 2 for 79 dollors (JRRshop.com) so I scraped plan A and went to this plan B. I beleive that with the Adpaks you then get your AD2 plugin update free anyway. So as others say, there are always offers in the pipeline and last weekend 2 offers from 2 companies. January is around the corner, and post Christmas/New years sales with it, you could spend sometime figuring what kits you actually want. Jazz brushes and Dry kit next for me I think. Fairfaxes are downloading as I type. JRR had me worried for a sec, took over 2 days to provide the reg codes, but I purchased on a non working day in a different timezone, with a company in a different timezone to the supplier.

As a general rule, the longer you wait the better. I paid $5,000 for my TV (back when I had such disposable cash) and a month later it was reduced to $1,700 at the same store. And if you buy a laptop, it's best if you just don't look at the ads in the Sunday paper for a while afterward. Addictive Drums used to be $400. Just imagine if you'd bought it back then and then kept up with every new version since. Miroslav Philharmonik was originally $4,000; what is it now, fifty bucks? I'd still be running Cakewalk for DOS 1.0 if I had any computers that could still boot into DOS, and would be many thousands of dollars richer today. OK, maybe not, because I'd still be using hardware synthesizers. Bad example.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Very happy with AD2. I've also got Toontrack EZDrummer, which works in a lot of cases, but AD2 works wonderful when I need to tweak things a bit.

It depends on why you are underwhelmed. If your not crazy about the sounds the Fairfax bundle could change your mind. If it's the workflow, it's similar with the exception of how you browse for kits and presets. Rocky

Its the sound. It just does not sound in the same league as BFD 3 or Superior Drummer, IMHO. I have heard it said that some of the Ad Packs are a my better than the factory kits.

Clint, Native Instruments Abbey Road 60's drummer has a drop down menu to select and play EZDrummer midi. Like an auto midi-mapper? Just a click! Does AD2 have a simular setup. I didn't see anything like that in AD1. Thanks.

I also got this email because I have not upgraded to AD2 yet. There are actually two options in this offer to upgrade. Either choose 1) upgrade to AD2 for 50% off $79.95, or 2) upgrade to AD2 and add 1 ADPack for 50% off $129.95. As I read the offer, the Fairfax vol 1 is not included in the first option, but could be selected in the second option. I only post this because there as been some discussion here about Fairfax vol 1 being included. It is included for the more expensive upgrade which would be $65 after the discount. Not sure if I will upgrade with this offer or not mainly because I like AD1 and don't find the need myself, and also I am planing on upgrading to EZD2 in the next month.
