My morning news...

I read email while enjoying my morning brew and got the news that this shipped today!

I started dating my wife in 1973 and when we went to concert we paid around...
$7.00 x2 for tickets
$10.00 for gas to get to it and back (about 200 miles)
Usually ate so I'll say on the cheap $10.00.

So a concert would run about $30.00 at least and not including party favors lol.
This concert will cost me $13.39 and I can enjoy it anytime I want and I know the production
will be better than any concert we ever went to...but that really isn't why we went to concerts back then
and why this is such a great deal to us now. Back then if we could get this I know we'd still spring for the
real thing.
Weird thing is we weren't rich back then and could afford to go and we're still not rich but can't afford to
go now. Lots of things seem to be out of balance in todays world.

I know exactly what you mean Michael. Seems like the cost of just about everything we used to enjoy regularly has become prohibitive..eating out, concerts, travelling.

I hate the way that the big names book a couple of weeks at the O2 in London and call it a "UK tour", when in fact they aren't going anywhere at all and it's the audience that has to do all the touring. Wouldn't mind quite as much if they reflected all the money they save by not having to dismantle, move and reassemble the gear all the time in the ticket prices but perversely the tickets are usually even more expensive. I just refuse to go on principle, but the shows seem to sell out, so win/win for them.

I guess the "elimination" of the middle class is a real thing James.

My wife and kid went to the movies last night and it was $13.00 and a special for popcorn, a candy and large soda for $15.00.  plus $5.00 for gas- $33.00 total.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not a penny pincher...I just notice when things are "out of balance" but I've always been mechanical inclined and had a knack for getting the balance issue resolved. LOL I know I can't fix whatever has happened to this mess.

I'm like you Paulo...there are many things that I refuse on principle but there are many things I just can't justify the price.
I wouldn't pay what my wife did...but I don't "force" my opinion and ways on others; I just didn't go.
Now if my wife didn't take her....then I would have to and not let on but there are a lot of things I don't have to bend my thinking about.

Don't get me started on the cinema..lol ! Cinema for two here and you're getting close to $60 now all in and there just aren't any films that make me want to go that much, so I haven't been for years.

We're very lucky to have an independent cinema in the little town nearby, and it's still fairly cheap to see a movie (about $20 equiv for two).

When The Lovely Lady and I go to the cinema it's about $16 during the day (for non-3D).

It's the popcorn and drinks that kills the "deal".

It's the same here in the UK

We went to see Interstellar about 10 days ago, and I paid the extra for the "plush" seats - total cost for 2 was less than £30.00

But what they charge for the popcorn, drinks & hot dogs is astronomical!
So we shared a regular drink and ate afterwards at home.

Get your wife a big handbag and visit Tescos/Sainsbury/Asda/Aldi/Lidl/Morrisons beforehand. That's my way of beating the daylight robbers.

I've never been in the theatre they go to. It's a very nice one with highback plush seats and my wife says it's like new and very clean. There are six different screens and she doesn't think it's Ok to take ones own snacks/drinks.

If they'd been going to see Interstellar I would have gone. I'm not sure if they don't care for sci-fi or just don't want to be seen in public with me. I know they pick movies I don't care to see. Maybe it's because I pick video concerts discs they don't care to hear.

All this has made me curious....do the keyboards in the UK have a pound symbol over the number 4 rather than the dollar?

No, the £ is over the 3, $ is over the 4.

Agreed. Going to concerts now is unbelievably expensive.

I paid for many until I learned that I could become part of the union and get paid to see them. I usually got a T-shirt too. :) I usually had to pay for a 'date' to see it too but I still came out ahead.

I do wonder how much of the imbalance is because of Ticketmaster and the like having a monopoly on the arenas/coliseums/etc. with the sole source of tickets.

It's a shame that going to a concert costs me more than the monthly payment for my new car. Movies are pricey but not out of reach. Pro sports are now out of reach in Toronto. Decent seats for a hockey game or basketball can be $300 each (if you can find them). At some point there's going to be a correction, I hope it isn't because of WW3.

I paid just over £25 each for 4 balcony seats at the O2 Brum to see The Stranglers with SidStrummerUK, WayneTicklerUK and WelshAlThePostie next March.

    Seems pretty reasonable to me.

The Rezillos are the support act. Mind you, nowadays, nobody's on Top Of The Pops

I enjoyed the concert last night. Kicked back with my Ultrasones and it was worth every penny.
Some very good camera work so got to see Jeff work the guitar. Up close shots of him playing like I haven't seen before.
His new band is tight and right IMO.
