LOL! Thanks, James! Yeah, I'm very grateful that so many people like the book. It's been getting a lot of good reviews, as you can see.

What kind of music are you making with SONAR X3?

Hobbyist here - hope to have more time now that the kids are off to college!  General musings for my own entertainment, some MIDI stuff, some local band recordings.  Still trying to learn all the features of this great software.  Its fun just owning the tools that we could only dream about back in the day ('80s for me).  Keep up the good work on the Power books.  Ever thought of doing some videos?

Congrats on your new found freedom... although your wife may have other plans for that extra time that you're hoping for...

I know what you mean about the tools we have now... back in college they made us work with reel-to-reel. Splicing tape is so much fun... not! It's amazing what we can do now with a home computer and a piece of software. I can only imagine what we'll have in the future.

Yeah, doing videos is definitely on my radar. I hope to announce something in the near future. Keep an eye on http://www.garrigus.com/ because I announce things there first as well as the DigiFreq Music Recording Newsletter http://www.digifreq.com/

Thanks!

Hey Scott,

Finally got my copy of X3 Power! at a killer price using the recent CW survey voucher. Diggin' the new additions to the edition (although I'd still love to see you do a newsletter or video going over the Concrete Limiter and other PC modules ).

I did notice (what I think is) a small error in the text though... On page 229, Chapter 10, in the section talking about the Audio Track Strips in the Console View, it reads "ProChannel (SONAR Producer Edition)" and "...the ProChannel channel strip effect included with SONAR Producer Edition." Unless I'm mistaken, isn't the PC now included in the Studio version as well? Not a big deal if it is a typo, as the main section on the ProChannel has it right.

Another fantastic addition to the series either way! Nice work.

PS: You've been awfully quiet around here lately... Methinks we can guess what you might be up to...

How does this compare the the Groove3 tutorials.  I have been watching Groove3 Sonar x3 and those are good if not a bit slow paced.

Is Sonar Power more comprehensive?  I have the free sample on my kindle and it didn't look like it would be any deeper than the groove3 vids.

Hey Kyle... cool... thanks for picking it up and glad to hear your diggin' it. I'll keep that in mind for the PC stuff.

Yeah, looks like you found the first typo! Oh, well... I guess I'm not perfect after all.

Hi Chris,

Can't say for sure, since I haven't seen the vids, but from the table of contents on their site, it doesn't look like they cover everything... such as working with video, surround sound, CAL, notation, etc. My book also covers each of the individual effects and synths included with SONAR, etc.

Thanks!

Not even in the same boat.  Groove3 are tutorials, Sonar Power is a reference manual.  The latter has far more detail. I'd recommend both.

I have an account at Groove 3 and have seen the videos and they are helpful. Sonar Power is a completely different animal though. The videos don't have the incredible detail Scott's book has. Personally I think you will find that you watch the videos once or twice but refer to Sonar Power over and over again. As said before, Power is an excellent reference manual.
