Selfie

I haven’t paid this forum a visit in a long time, and I see a few of my old pals are still around. In fact this is the first recording I’ve finished in a couple of years that I thought was worth sharing. I think it’s a funny tale, and I hope you all enjoy it.

I do lead vox, guitars, bass, organ and Jammer drums. Backing vocals by Stephanie Courter (we got married last spring after 19 years of unwedded bliss) and Danielle Huffman. Of course, I hope to hear some comments on the mix, but with this disclaimer: on the mp3 all I can hear of the drum track is the kick and toms, some cymbal. I worked a while on it, but haven’t come up with a solution to the missing snare and hihat. So I’m aware of that problem, but how do you like the rest of it?
Here’s the link:

I look forward to hearing from my old friends, and making some new ones

Nice too see you again Mark....it has been a while! Glad your still cranking away...yea I like this tune and love the bvox as well....I'd like to hear the lead have a bit more thickness...but beyond that I like it!...like the B3...adds a nice grind to the mix.

I like this song quite a bit, though I agree about the guitar tone.  I'm wondering if you could keep this performance and just re-amp the guitar.  I think with the right tone, this song would go over the top.

    All the best,

Welcome back, Courter. Great job by the missus on the BGV's. On my monitors, the kick's a little pushy but sounds nice so I'd just turn it down a dB or two.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Looks like some of us are coming back to the nest.  Good to hear a tune from you, Mark.  I liked the feel of this tune.  I agree that the guitar could be a bit ballsier but man, the BGV are HOT!  Can I borrow them for some songs? Good song, buddy.

Fellas, I appreciate the feedback. I usually have to bully Steph into singing, the positive remarks will help give her some confidence.
about the lead guitar: I was going for that cleanish single coil, almost glassy tone, but I may have to reconsider. I'm glad to hear the drums don't sound too bad. And someone liked my organ! I'm a real newbie on keys, so that's really encouraging.
Good to see some of the oldtimers here.

    Hey, Mark,

It's really great to see you back around, buddy!

Excellent work on this refreshing, fun, cool little smoothie!  I like the clever lyrics, tasty clean guitar work, fun vocals, and Stephanie and Danielle did a super job on the BGVs! (Big Congrats on your marriage, by the way!)

I love that B3 organ, and the shimmering clean guitar work.  Maybe try slapping a Dick Dale "surf rock" style reverb on the guitar solo just to thicken it up a little bit, although it already sounds really nice as is.

Fun song, Mark, very original with your own recognizable style which is always great!

Have a good one, buddy, and don't be a stranger!

Hello Bob, good to hear from you. At this point I'm thinking about redoing the lead guitar, without really changing anything. Wow! My own recognizable style! I think that's a good thing. Thanks for the comments.

Hey there Mark, not my favorite from you sir. The chords, the vocals, the mix? There's room for work, but you worked on it and posted it, so good job on the effort.  And I enjoy any tune with a B3 in the mix.

Good to see you back here Mark, most everything that needs to be said has been said so I will not reiterate, the one thing that really stood out to me is that apart from a couple of little breaks it sounded very narrow.  Backing vox was very good.
