new Distant Towers tune, Today's a Good Day

Good evening fellow Sonarians, we hope this transmission from the universe of Distant Towers reaches you in good cheer.

Apparently being in a rather expansive mood, Tom decided to write a song with a decidedly upbeat name called Good Day or Today's a Good Day.....either will work.  Evidently this good energy made it to our shores here in North America where Preston took it as his mission to beat the living daylights out of some wood shells with some kind of material stretched over them.

Here it is....as always we welcome all comments about mix, content, tempo or just about any other aspect you wish to comment on.  And also as before we thank all listeners heartily and appreciatively.

For those of us (which I suspect there may be many) that used to greet a new album release by ingesting various substances (be they legal or ill) and proceeding to listen to said new music with album cover and sleeve tightly in hand to read all the wonderful information given by the musicians.  Or as we call it now, the skinny....
Tom McCaffrey:  Vocals, lyrics, synths, bass, mixing, bike riding
Preston Richardson:  Drums, drum recording/engineering/mixing, quality time with many mics and snares
Tony Wood:  Guitar, standard tuning and with the full complement of strings....and a capo

Thanks everyone, hope you enjoy the tune...and if not, hopefully the bleeding ears are easily treated at your local doc in the box.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about.  Woo HOO!!!   Those double kicks at about 4 min were hot.  I like everything about this.  Tom must be likin' the food over there lately.  I am so happy to see you guys up here and rockin.  You all did superb jobs and made this tune rock!~  Has this really been up since yesterday with no one listening?  Did I say that this REALLY ROCKED!!  Great performances and engineering.  One of my favs from you guys.

Ah! Love me some Distant Towers!

Tom, Tony and Preston, this is excellent! Guitars are rockin, love those synth spatterings! I'd like to hear that snare crack a little more, but other than that, this is just flat out GOOD!

There are songs that just dig into me right out of the chute, sometimes but not often.  Your "Crux of the Biscuit" was one of them.  Now this one.  I just wanted to listen again and see if it was as good as last night.  Better.  I forgot to mention yesterday.....That Preston is one heck of a drummer!

One of the best songs I've heard in a while.  It jumps out of the speakers and smacks you in the face.  It's good to go as far as I'm concerned.

Warren:  Thanks for listening and for the kind words.  Yeah, Preston really wound up on this one.  It was fun to hear him go!!  Thanks for the repeat listen....this one is a little different for us.  Seems like it has a bit more energy than our usual fare.  Glad that you liked this one.

Reece:  Thanks for listening and the nice assessment of the tune and the critique.  Tom tightened up the snare some after seeing your post.  Yeah, Tom sprinkled those synth things in there and I like it too.

FreddyJ:  Thanks for checking the tune out and for the nice things you say about it.  Glad that it got the job done.

Lynn:  Thanks for the listen and for the stamp of approval...we appreciate knowing that it sounded great on your system and that it is "in your face" so to speak.  Definitely felt that way to me too and I was not sure how it would be receieved.  Thanks.

Superb rocking song. Preston is one fine drummer, I was knocked out with his playing on your last CD.

    Awesome.

The riff just kicks you in the head immediately from the go-ahead.

    Love the synth texture.

    Hey, Tony, Tom and Preston,

It's always a "Good Day" when I get to hear a new dose of Distant Towers!

This super tasty "rock monster" is bursting with energy and has a kinetic drive straight from the punchy rhythm section to Tony's rollicking guitar riffs!  Tom's vocals and bass are killer, I really like the slick synth fills wound throughout, and Preston really outdid himself on this kick-butt drum track.  I love Tony's thick guitar tones, tasty fills and cool solos.  The guitar solos remind me of Robby Krieger's late 60's/early 70's Doors "Morrison Hotel" and "LA Woman" style, which I always loved.  Is that the PRS, Tony?

Fantastic job, boys, another "Rockin'" feather in the DT cap!

    Have a good one!

Thanks for the listen and the review/kind comments Bob, we appreciate it very much.  This one was Tom's baby but Preston came in and just slammed the pedal down.  Yeah, that's my PRS SE Custom 22 on this one.  Love that guitar....it is the first guitar that I just had to have because it fit my hands and playing so perfect.  Tom loves the lead on this one so we left the first take as the final.  Glad you heard something you liked in it too.

    Good tune!   Rockin'....

Mix-wise I feel like there could be just a little more compression and/or reverb/room on the drums to make things a little "bigger" - it's a big song!
