Newbie Help with Syncing Metronome and audio clip with audio snap

Total newbie finding my way. What I have to do is import a guide audio track, match it to the project tempo (which I have seen is all done with audio snap...)however, if I leave the metronome playing throughout the track while I record midi drums along to it (with v drums) on a midi track, Metronome does go out of sync half way through the song? The aim is to be able to quantise the midi drum track so it sits perfectly with the audio guide, which will later be replaced. I've spent a week on this and it's kinda driving me nuts now. I'd rather be spending time on Addictive drum sounds etc. Can anyone please help out, I'm obviously not understanding something?
I've also been having massive trouble quantising the drum track, but guess it's coz they are not syncing up?
Thanks in advance
(Oh I'm using Sonar Producer 3)

What works best for this kinda situation is to drop the audio track into Sonar, then make your own metronome track.
Play along with the audio track on your midi controller ( V drum) just hitting quarter notes on anything, hi hat or rim shot.
    Record it as MIDI.
Now mess with the tempo until it lines up as close as possible.
If the original audio track has a count in this is dead simple. Just line up those 4 beats to the grid.
    Bounce that to audio.
Now use THAT track to extract the tempo with audio snap.
Audio snap works best with very strong simple transient audio.

Well I certainly managed to quantize my drum track with a few quantize settings adjustments...so I guess it's successful. I'll play around with some other tracks tomorrow the same way and see how it goes. Thanks Heaps

Glad it worked. It's a great tool for audio drum parts and my favorite is to turn an audio kick into a midi kick.
