You can probably use the Zoom Q3 as the card reader.

WOW,
thats a great idea Mike  , the only piece of equipment I have that uses a SD card is the Q3 .
now you have me wondering , is that card the same size card dimension wise as what is in the Memory cable  ?

The memory cable uses a micro SD but I believe it comes with an adaptor to standard size.

Comes with a 4GB card, a microSD to SD card adapter, and a credit card-sized quick start. It's really, really easy to operate. I think I could do it while unconscious.

Yes, it comes with an adapter. When I first got the cable I took the microSD card out of my Android, popped in the Memory Cable card, connected the phone as a USB drive, and pulled the files off that. Later on I splurged $2.99 and got a microSD USB card reader.

BTW it is bidirectional - you can plug the end with the recorder into your amp or your guitar. Also, it works great with keyboards.

Just remember to turn on recording! The whole point is to have it always recording, don't wait until you "think" you're going to get inspired. I got a rechargeable battery so I wouldn't have to feel bad about leaving it on all the time.

Great topic! I am waiting for mine, it should be delivered soon. A question for happy owners.
I plan to use it in my effects loop like exposed below

In this configuration, the sound should be really close to the one going out of my amp, am I wrong ?
Do some of you try it in such a configuration (after pedal effects) ?

Many thanks

BTW, I found out that you don't have to plug the end with the recorder into your guitar, you can plug it into the amp if you prefer.

I'm finding that my favorite "feature" is that you only need to plug one end into the guitar, the other end doesn't have to go anywhere. So recording is reduced to plug in/press button.

For those of you wondering about syncing it up latter, I use the DR 40 at all my live gigs to record my vocals and my guitar amp via the XLR inputs. I don't record my backing tracks but they leak enough into the mikes to easily use the count in to drop the file into Sonar.
There is no drift over a 3 minute song that I can see or hear. This device is really a dr05 without built in mikes. A dr05 sells for the same price just so you know. Same device dumbed down to make it convenient. Great idea, but I'd rather have the features and the mikes.
So if your just going to use this for secondary recording you might also consider a Tascam handy recorder.

If you have a dual or quad inputs per channel, like a vintage marshall, fender black/silver face, gibson tweeds, etc you could just plug it into another amp input and it'll see the guitar signal.

I do that to run 2 amps sometimes.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant was one end of the recorder shows to guitar, the other shows to amp. You can reverse these.

You can also plug into an effects loop send. One guitarist has a Memory cable between guitar and effects, and another between the effects and amp so he has a "DI" as well as a processed sound.

I've been playing around with the DR-22WL and DR-44WL, 2 and 4 track respectively, with wi-fi. They are their own servers so you can have an iOS or Android device "join" their network. You can then run the free app to control levels, control the transport, stream audio files, etc. Pretty slick...I would have killed to have a DR-22WL when I was doing trade show videos, where I had people speaking into a handheld so I could fly in the audio separately. It would have been fantastic to adjust levels remotely while they were actually speaking into it.

Here's an article I wrote about the wi-fi capabilities. Sorry to interrupt this with what might appear to be a sales pitch, but the wi-fi aspect is really, really cool and I think this is the kind of audience that would want to know about it.

It does belong in the hardware forum.. but does that really matter??,Even though I see the logic, I personally don't believe in the separate forms, I would be happy if they were all in the same place,,, It would certainly save me from jumping all about each visit. Posting in a sub forum will result in a way smaller group of people seeing your thread.

The main reason for keeping it here at the moment is that the thread started here, so anyone who had an interest in the topic would expect to see it here.

However, if the thread was started today, I agree that it should have started in the hardware forum. I do think the idea of separating the forums, while simultaneously reducing the overall number of forums, will make sense over time. It seems to me that the pace of hardware-related questions is picking up, so a dedicated forum will be convenient in the future for those are mostly interested in, say, interfaces that work well with SONAR without having to wade through posts on keyswitching with orchestral libraries or the care and feeding of groove clips. We'll see.

No, I did not design it. However, I was involved in other aspects.
