Setting NoteVelo view in PRV - I'm missing something

I was working on 2 different projects today which have several different synths in them, and in the 1st project I open the PRV and it has the keyboard displayed as I prefer.  In the 2nd project when I open the PRV on any track it displays note numbers.

I easily change it, but it doesn't save that setting as a screenset and saving the project doesn't either.  Every midi track I click on it's the same way.  I looked in Preferences but I didn't see anything relevant.

It's a minor, minor deal but when you're editing a lot of midi tracks it is irritating to switch the NoteVelo display everytime I switch tracks.

Please tell me I'm dense.

You're not dense, I don't think there's a preference for that. I haven't had this problem, but not sure what I've done to keep that from happening. Maybe saving your normal template with a MIDI track that has note assignments, or has a MIDI instrument (like a GM instrument) configured for a MIDI track, would do the job.
