Use Jamstix MIDI Data to Play Addictive Drums?

I recently started using Jamstix, and have dragged a MIDI drum part from Jamstix to a Sonar MIDI track so that I can edit the MIDI data and then have it sounded by Addictive Drums. I've never really paid much attention to drum maps, but it seems I now need one, because I'm fairly certain the 2 programs don't always assign the same drums to the same keys (pitches).

I started reading the Drum Map section in Scott Garrigus' excellent Sonar X1 Power! book (sorry if I'm behind the times a bit), and thus learned that Sonar has dozens of drum maps built-in. But I don't see a drum map for Addictive Drums. Am I somehow overlooking it? Like I said, I've never used a drum map, so there's a good chance I don't have a good understanding of the process.

Are you using the AD Jamstix kit in Jamstix? Here is a similar thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2961076

If you are using AD2 here are the Jamstix3 files you need http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3042352

BTW, drum maps would work too. I just think since Jamstix supports most of the major drum synths why not do it the Jamstix way.

    Thanks again.

I have spent the last couple of hours trying to get the first method to work, but so far no go. Although I'm new to Jamstix and drum maps, I've been working with MIDI for decades, and this seems like it should be fairly easy. I even tries setting the Addictive Drums MIDI input to All Inputs - Omni, so if there is ANY drum MIDI floating around, the AD track should pick it up and play it. But so far nothing. I can see the MIDI Out indicator light flashing in Jamstix, but the MIDI is apparently not finding its way to AD.

Start simple. With a new project:
    • Insert Jamstix as an instrument track
    • Insert AD as an instrument track
    • Set the AD input as Jamstix 3 1 > MIDI Omni
    • In Jamstix switch to the Kit tab load the AD Jamstix kit
At this point clicking on the AD Jamstix kit should play in AD except for the kit pieces like the blocks and chimes which will still play in Jamstix

Nothing. I followed your suggestions to the letter.

I notice that the kit pieces in the AD Jamstix kit are mostly not configured to properly output MIDI. Either the key or output data, or both, are missing, and the program won't allow me to change those fields to properly configure them, even though the status line tells me I can do so by clicking on the fields. But anyway, the kit pieces which ARE properly configured to output MIDI (splash and china cymbals only) also do not sound in Addictive Drums. The MIDI is not finding its way from JS to AD.

I can see the AD Jamstix kit drums light up as they are played by JS. I can see the MIDI-Out indicator lighting.  MIDI Only is selected in JS. I have a kit loaded in AD.

    Nothing.

Thanks for your help. Maybe I should try Plan B.

Are you using the default kit in AD, a different kit or AD2? I did no other configuration than the steps outlined above using the all defaults in both plug-ins using the original AD using the Startup kit and Jamstix 3.6.0. I believe the defaults in the JS mixer are "Flip Stereo" and Downmix. They don't matter because of the kit selected.

Sorry for the delay...I had to walk away from this for a while. Sometimes that clears the mind. (But apparently not in this case....gotta be some kind of pilot error.)

Mostly I was using AD2, but I also tried AD, the default kit.

Yes,, the defaults in JS are as you stated.

Maybe I just need to RTFM. But this whole thing should be pretty simple. I'm going to call it a night and try tomorrow, but learning drum maps may be in my immediate future.

Did you try the track templates in my zip files?

There is one thing that is easily over looked: make sure that the input echo button on the midi track that connects jamstix to ad is lit up. If it is not, midi data is not echoed to ad.

As I was drifting off to sleep last night, the words "input echo" flashed through my mind. So great minds think alike, and it wouldn't be the first time I've found that simple step to be the issue. However, still no go.

I will try your track templates momentarily.

I got the following message from XLN:

This preset was saved with a product that you don't own.
You need to purchase or register the product to use this preset.

Also, I tried your .cwp file, but still nothing from AD2, and then JS stopped working. I think the message said:

Cannot communicate with Core GUI ID=4

    or something similar.

Also, I feel like I'm in over my head with these files. I found the instructions confusing, because apparently you wrote about 2 sets of files in one post, and I was never sure to which set of files you were referring. I'm torn between continuing to try the first method mentioned in that other post, trying to get your files to work, or chucking it all and trying drum maps.

My first method...the one mentioned by Photo_G in this thread:

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2961076

    is now working.

I have no idea why, but my guess is that I accidentally clicked on the proper combination of ins and outs to get it to work. And I probably had the correct settings at some point last night, minus the crucial Input Echo button. Or maybe the MIDI Gods took pity on me.

I've since saved it as a track template and imported it into another project, and it still works properly.

So I'm going to use this method, and perhaps at some point also try the drum maps method.

Thanks to those who offered suggestions.
