X3 should open the bun file even if it was made Pro Audio. Sonar 3 was the first to use cwp files Pro Audio used wrk files.

It may be corrupted. This maybe an unimportant point but Sonar really doesn't load a bun file it unpacks it. It then loads the project and its audio after they have been written to disk. If there was a problem with the system it was created on or a glitch occurred it could have been corrupted when it was made. Back in the Pro Audio days this happened often enough that people were distrustful of bun files.

BENT I get a error message saying "can not load file".
Any error codes or a more complete version of the error message available? The are some threads with more info which may help.

Wow! I didn't think Pro Audio9 would run on a Windows 8-1 machine? John It may be corrupted. This maybe an unimportant point but Sonar really doesn't load a bun file it unpacks it. I very much doubt corruption is the problem because I remember checking and rechecking these files albeit a long time ago. scook

Unfortunately not. All I can add is... X3e stalls becomes unresponsive (turns light grey) and I have to close it using task manager Sonar 8-5-3 just brings up a box saying "can not load file" Any other thoughts? Anyone?

Oh! and can anyone confirm or debunk Windows 7 or 8-1 is capable of installing ProAudio9 and is there any risk of stuffing up the machines registry or causing an unstable X3 in anyway?

I can't confirm, but you could always use a vmware machine with an older windows

I'm thinking you probably cannot install Pro 9 on W7 64 bit. But why not try it? What I just did and it worked is I installed XP 32 bit in a small partition. I use the dual boot without issues but some like the virtual machine method better. But in the end this solved my issues with older software that cannot be run on W7-8. The cool thing is you boot into XP and my storage drives are all available too. You just have to install the old software and there you go. Beats keeping an old computer around for sure.

Hi, Pro Audio 9.0 runs on Windows 7 64 bit. In order to install it you must turn off your anti virus software, turn off User Account Control and not try to install in Program Files. When the installer asks if C:\Program Files\Cakewalk Pro Audio is where to install change to C:\Pro Audio. The anti virus software and User Account Control can be turned back on after installation. Thanks Al, will consider this if the Toshiba idea fails
