Auto Guitarist

I just found out that if a guitar player doesn't want to play in a particular key he or she can flip a switch on their effects board and auto change keys. WHA?  It's bad enough players now days go to Youtube to learn how the play their songs but now this?

What IS this "tuning" concept I hear so much about anyway?  Do I really need it?  I play rawk...

There is a tuning I've heard of before.

It's called "close enough for jazz".

Probably takes too much time to tune those things now that the trend is to have an extra string added every year....

Can you imagine a double neck for current guitars? You get an 8 strings and a 16 strings...

Just buy a sitar, already...

If you are I Am too.

Like many things to do with music it really does wind up "in the face" when one finds they're in a room with a dinosaur.
It reminds me of when they had to put pictures on cash registers LOL.

I Am a Dinosaur ?

What, learning to play an instrument, using available tools to do so. Personally I think it should be encouraged, and dinosaur wouldn't be the word I'd used for disdaining it.

My granddaughter is the only student in her guitar class who can tune the instrument by ear. I have an extra electronic tuner I could give her, but I think she should cultivate that skill. Someday it could be a rare and marketable talent, like singers who can wing it without autotuning.

Of course, I'm not one to talk. As a keyboard player my #1 measure of a guitar's quality is its ability to stay in tune. Nothing kills the moment like having to stop everything to tune up. Except maybe the drummer's girlfriend showing up with an axe, be it figurative or literal.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I don't mind if the drummers girlfriend shows up with a small group of her young hot stripper friends

For now I'm staying with my chorus, delay, wah, and fuzztone and putting a mic on the hotrod deluxe. For now

Bit - I practice ear training almost everyday. I can sit in with bands because I can "hear" the chord/progression played. By that I mean min7 Maj7 Dom7 etc.
I is a dinosaur in these parts but I is also way older than the players I meet too
