"Waiting to Shine"
https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/waiting-to-shine (downloadable wav file if you hit the right button) a sort-of shuffle, about some buddies having a hard time finding jobs, commiserating together at the local watering hole, waiting to shine.

It sounds OK here, well better than OK Has much of your normal shine, polish, slick licks and production skills. What else can I say, thanks for sharing

thanks for listening wookie.... you know, you say 'polished', but honestly, i was trying to make this one a little more 'raw', in keeping with the subject matter. for me, the mix is kinda built into the arrangement... i pretty much just brought the rhythm guitars up and panned them.... added dual lead tracks, and sent all the guitars to one buss.... did the same to the lead vox and backups.... and the drums are completely un-processed, they are superior drummer samples, but the tracks are raw output, that i just mixed like a normal kit... i wanted it to be sort of 'blues-y', and loose... maybe i should have had more to drink while i was tracking. LOL tnx again....

Raw does not mean that the final can not have that glisten of polish. I was trying to say something nice and complementary without tripping out the same stuff, you know exactly what I mean. You have to remember I have to translate all this into Shyriiwook and then back to this thing you call English

Nice..... polished or raw... or both... this is a great tune. Well done with those classic "Bat-tone" guitars going on. Love those twin licks that you have happening throughout. Cool ending to the song....

Great job bat. No issues at all. One nit: The center is pretty full. The R & L sides seem a bit low in volume comparatively until it gets to about 2:30. At lower volume levels it works OK. Your song and arrangement/playing is superb as always.

thanks hacker.... the ending got a little off the hook i think at the end, i had left the wah wide open treble, and the vibe was on, it was just screaming

i'll have to go back and review this mix, to see what's happening.... seems to me the rhythm guitars were hard panned left and right, so there should be a pretty wide mix... 'typically, i do vox, kick, snare, bass up center, and everything else goes off to the sides to some degree. i do tend to mix rhythms a bit lower at the beginning of songs, and let it build throughout, if the song is long enough for it, likethis one is thanks for the review

gonzo, I think I've known you for at least ten years now and during that time I have never heard a song by you that wasn't absolutely incredible - including this one. You are an amazing song writer and one of the most entertaining guitar players here - or anywhere - just amazing. I always try to come up with something I can critique when I listen to your songs - I don't think I've ever come up with a single critique. I love this.

Beagle thanks for waking up with me!! LOL that sounds weird.... this guitar tone, happened with my custom build strat, a USACG build, with bill lawrence pickups, it has become my favorite machine for various tones, in combination with a good tube amp. not my favorite to play, necessarily, but the tones i get with it make me want to change out all the pickups in all my other guitars! thanks for listening
makeshift bat blues, yes, warren coined that phrase, it works pretty well! markus thanks for the kind words. i have never written anything yet, that wasn't in need of some serious critique!! LOL, but at least i'm doing some stuff that is interesting enough to be entertaining, so thanks all the same!

thepogue i appreciate the review..... i can understand what you are saying about the vox, but i try to change the vocal approach on every song i do, so that it works in a bigger-picture kind of way, where it sits on the album with the other songs is important.... so, i hit a few, miss a few, i'm ok with that, i understand how that works. the guitars, damn, it's the easiest part, it almost feels like cheating. the hard part, is marrying a vocal that is equivalent, and some lyric content that isn't 'baby baby come suk my dik' kinda of stuff!!! LOL thanks again....

thanks lynn.. nice of you to say those things..... wah is kinda my thing. i don't use it very often, cuz it's just too easy to abuse... when i was first learning to play guitar, and Lead guitar in particular, the wah was my ONLY fx..... it's hendrix's fault. and to an only slightly lesser degree, J Becks and Clapton

"sort of shuffle"? Yeah, and SRV sorta played the blues. Seriously though, this is great hard-rockin', in your face, groove in the pocket song. The guitar tones are simply flat out great IMO, could be right off a major label release.

alright steve! reviving a dead thread.......! LOL at least, i thought it was.... so, these guitar tones, are mostly direct from a mesa boogie mark 2b, capture with a palmer PDI-09. there may be ONE actual miced track in the whole bunch.... point being, it was really easy to capture the true tone of the boogie with that device, but it took me a long time to figure out how to tweak the amp, to get the tone i wanted, to go thru the palmer. i may experiment with a Radial JDX as well, and of course, i still have all my mics! thanks for listening
