Multitrack Drum Editing

Thanks for the series on Multitrack drum editing. I've struggled a lot with this and it's still a challenge. There were a few nuggets in the series that helped my workflow for this.

However, this is still an area that could use a lot of work. Hopefully future versions will improve multitrack drum editing and possibly full band multitrack editing. We now have voice recognition software in phones that works pretty well, seems like "drum recognition" that would automatically carve up a part and align it with perfect time would be easier! Some day!!

Another area that could use some help is drum triggering. While the techniques work pretty well and there is also a good blog "how to" on doing it. It's still very difficult to get good results if you have complex drum parts, especially snare parts with tight rolls or any parts with more complicated runs.

I know this can be made better because I have an electronic kit that you can do rolls and runs on, recording the midi output, and it works much better than what I can do by triggering a real drum. Problem is, drummers don't like playing the pads as well and it doesn't sound like a "real drum." A real drum recording with some layering of triggered sounds would be the best. Seems like the internals of how the midi notes are generated with better velocity mapping would be better. Simple exercise, try recording a tight roll on a snare, triggering a session drummer snare and tell me if you can get a good result. If you can, PLEASE let me know how you did it!

However, we've come a long way since I used Texture in DOS!! Thanks for the ride and look forward to it all getting better.
