amplitube 3 vst problem
Hi everybody. First of all I’m a newbie to Sonar and recording stuff. I have a Roland duo-capture audio interface. I first tried miking my amp but didn’t like the result and now I’m trying to record guitar tracks using the Amplitube vst and so far I couldn’t make it. I have managed to add AT to “VST Instruments(VSTI)” menu but I can’t trigger it in recording. In plug-in properties I check enable as plug-in and configure as synth. Then I go insert>soft synth>vst plugins>Amplitube and in soft synth options “simple instrument track” is checked. I can only choose “Omni” for input at inspecter window. I open the AT interface but there is no signal input or output in Amplitube though I can hear my dry sound from Rolands input monitor. It’s like bypass mode. When I use AT without Sonar I don’t have this problem. What must I do?

You're dealing with audio, not MIDI, so there is no use for Simple Instrument Track. Put Amplitube simply in the FX bin of an audio track.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

There are a number of ways to add it to your fx bin... If you're using the browser, you can drag it to the bin of an audio track... Or else you can right click in the bin and navigate to it through the list finally selecting it...
A note though... I don't know if it's supposed to be used as a synth. I thought it only an effect but I may be wrong and I can't check at this time...
Another caveat is that you will need to turn on input monitoring for the track as it functions on the output of the track as do all fx...

Prior to X3 the only way to use MIDI with an effect plug-in was setting it up as a synth in the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager. With X3 this is no longer necessary. Effects which are capable of MIDI I/O have options in the VST2/VST3 drop down in the plug-in header to enable the feature.

Thanks for the info scook. As always you're a wealth of understanding... I wasn't thinking of the midi control aspects... Only the processing itself. Keni

Also check the volume of the amp inside AT3. The first preset that comes in might be very quiet. As Keni mentioned above turn "input echo" on and check if you plugged your guitar to the very input that is specified on I/O of the track.
Windows 10/64, Intel i7 Xeon X6575 3,07GHz, 24Gb RAM, chipset: Intel X58 Express, Kingston SSD 240Gb, Sonar Platinum ∞, Edirol UA-25. ( Some extra VSTs: PSP almost all/ IK - AT4, ST3, / AAS - all/ TH3 full/ +10dB/ Melodyne Editor). EVE sc205 monitors, Defil Kosmos guitar, blue lava lamp, ashtray. Gainer and how do I do that?
You can learn these most Basic things by doing the tutorials and reading the manual. There are quite a few videos as well in Youtube and CakeTV, I've heard. Then, if there's something unclear in those (there is :o), you'll surely find plenty of support here. Copy pasting the manual here on the forum wouldn't be very practical.
