Scaling back - FYI laptop DAW on KVR

I bought an ADK 9000 laptop three years ago for remote recording and NEVER did a remote recording with it.

Selling it at the marketplace on KVR if anyone is interested.

For those who haven't heard of ADK (like me) it looks like they use Sager/Clevo laptops as the base for their systems. Those are very high end, customizable, laptops that are very well regarded. Popular with high end mobile gamers.

As such it is quite a solid foundation for a good system.

Yes this is a monster machine for a laptop. It's unfair to call it a laptop really. It's a portable DAW period.

The ONLY reason to sell it is I have not had the need arise for a portable DAW in the three years I owned it.

Paid well over $3K for it and all the extras. Only asking $1450 + shipping.

The "extras" come with it?

What is the UAD Solo? Is that the FX card?

Just looked them up. Nice. 😊

That's a really good price for that excellent Lappy........I'd buy it if I wasn't $1400 short.

It is a nice computer and I'm not trying to flame anyone, just trying to understand. To my eyes the ASUS I originally asked about is a lot more computer for $209 more. I've looked at the ADKs but in the end it's still built on an off the shelf laptop. In a laptop there are minimal things integral to the computer you can change to make it "custom for audio." You can change the drives and memory, but really not much else.

Here's a comparison of a few specs the the machine I asked about originally.

CPU
The listed ADK has an i7 960 which benchmarks at 5935, the ASUS I listed has an i7 4710 which benchmarks at 7916

Mem
The ADK has 6 gig of 1333 mhz mem, the asus has 16 gig of 1600mhz mem + 2 free mem slots to upgrade to 32 gig if desired

Drives
The ADK has 3 750gig 7200 rpm drives, the ASUS has a 256gig SSHD + a 1tb 7200 rpm drive

video
The ADK has an nvidia 560 with 1.5gig mem, the ASUS has an nvidia 970 with 3gig mem

Price - ADK $1540 - ASUS $1749

To be fair, With the ADK you also get a firewire interface, a nice travel case, an extra power brick, and a cakewalk audio interface. But I don't need a firewire, I'm not taking it on the road so a travel case isn't a big deal to me, and I already have a fireface UFX audio interface.

So for my purposes I just don't see how it would be the right way to go.

Good question bapu.

Good luck selling it, it seems like a screamer of a laptop, and I'm guessing it has one of ADK's custom bios versions for maximum minimum interruption.

Nice!!!
I have the same laptop, but built by me (config in my sig). I did my own BIOS version to optimize it for Low Latency so it should be very similar to yours.
I can assure you, this is the BEST laptop you can get for AUDIO, and specifications wise there's plenty of room to upgrade!
