Sonar Installation Error

Each and every time I have ever installed Sonar... on 4 different computers... I always get this error:

"Unable to delete file c:\windows\system32\msvcr17.dll (msvcr71.dll?)  Retry | Cancel | Ignore

The only way Sonar will install is to Ignore this action.

No such files exist in the system32 folder but is in the sysWOW64 and several program folders.

Is this normal and is it OK?

    You could try: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Please note that I am by no means any sort of informed expert on anything whatsoever to do with that particular error you are getting, but I HAVE used the system file checker program from Microsoft before, and perhaps it would fix your situation.

    Agreed Bob.

Another thing, run windows autoupdate (check optonal updates as well) before you run Sonar. It will probably update your C++ libraries and related files (this is a C++ file).

Finally try disabling antivirus and make sure other applications are closed (including system tray apps).

Also chkdsk might be an idea in case of corrupt permissions (I assume you haven't switched off UAC), best run before Bob's suggestion.

    Cheers..

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind for the next time. Sonar installs its own Visual C++ files for 32 and 64 bit which may be where the trouble is. During installation Sonar tries to find and delete this file but it does not exist where Sonar thinks it is (systen32 folder), hence the error. I found it in the sysWOW64 folder though a computer-wide search did not find it there.

Here's what MS says: "For Msvcr70.dll or for Msvcr71.dll, you should install the CRT DLL into your application program files directory.  You should not install these files into the Windows system directories." So why does Sonar think it should be there? And why doesn't Sonar put it in its own directory? Two things that make me think something isn't right here. More importantly, does it matter?

After searching the interweb for info on MSVCR71.dll it appears to be some sort of video or graphic related file. Could be why I'm always having graphical glitches with Sonar.
