My last guitar (now with museum pics)
On Tuesday, I journeyed to the C. F. Martin Guitar factory in Nazareth, PA to pick up my new Martin 000-28 Ambertone. I ordered it back in July. An business associate had mentioned that his sister in law worked for Martin for the last 34 years, and that he could get me what ever I wanted for 50% of retail through the family purchase plan. He went with me to pick it up. Upon arrival I was offered the VIP Delivery experience. Asking what that entailed, she said I would receive a "swag bag" of a tshirt, hat, picks, and strings. I would get a guided tour of the museum and factory. My name would be put up on the marquee in the lobby, and several craftsmen from the factory and several people from the corporate office would come into the lobby and my guitar would be presented to me. Then I would go over the small stage area in the lobby and play my new guitar for the first time for everyone. I opted to just take the swag bag and tours. And the guitar of course. The museum is a great experience. I highly recommend it and the factory tour. Both are free.

Very observant Craig. The flash on my cell phone makes it appear more red than it actually is, but it's a beauty. Without question the finest acoustic guitar I've ever played. A great setup and it just sings! Randy

jamesg1213 Very nice, and what a cool experience!
It really was a great day. The museum has so many cool things. Just a few off the top off my head. They have the Martin acoustic that was Leo Fenders first attempt at making an electric guitar in 1942. As you can see, it was a pretty primitive attempt. Here is a pic of Kurt Cobains Martin D18. It's the one he used on the Nevermind tour, and also played it on the MTV unplugged episode. They have over 170 instruments in the museum. All of them with a cool story. I took the lady who hooked me up with my guitar to lunch and she told me some pretty neat stuff. She's the international tone wood buyer for the company. She said with the restrictions on exotic woods such as Brazilian Rosewood, everyone in the business is very cautious. She said a collector has a rare Martin he would like to sell to the museum, but due to it having both Brazilian Rosewood and Ivory components, they are waiting to hear back from the corporate lawyers to see if they can even legally buy it.

Very nice guitar! And the factory tour is indeed a nice experience and you can do the museum while you wait for the guide for the next tour to start.

I miss her a whole lot more than the '59 Custom, various dc Jr's and the '69 stack. Just sayin'... T

Government wont be happy until they choose our car, where we live, when we can leave he house, what time we go to bed and get up, what we eat, what we drink... and can tax the air we breathe. They will go as far as they can. A guitar that is not new production should have no restrictions on sale, it is absurd and ONLY about the exercise or power. It helps nothing. It changes nothing except to make me mad. J

Julien The way the program works is that you have to order the guitar from an authorized dealer and let them know you want the VIP Delivery at the factory. I have an "in" through a friend whose sister-in-law works there, so he helped me with the order as a relative (wink, nod). With the Family Plan, I got mine for 50% of retail and was allowed to pick it up there. Randy

What? You mean I'm not special? If I intimated that you had to buy a guitar, I didn't mean to confuse anyone. I'd recommend anyone go to see the place whether they play guitar or not. It's a really cool place with a great vibe. Randy
