Splitting Tracks.

Hi forum,
I have a question which is...
How would I go about splitting a stereo track into two mono tracks...
Two questions actually...
My next question is, what are the the best ways to record synth tracks, mono or stereo?

    For Q1. Select "Bounce to tracks" and set "Split Mono" from the "Channel format" drop down.
    Q2. Generally speaking I use stereo for synths, probably the only thing I do record in stereo. Usually because they are output in stereo.

    For recording in stereo vs mono, there's no rule per se.  Pads and atmosphere type stuff is cool in stereo, but if say, it's a synth lead that's playing in unison to an electric guitar lead, maybe mono is better and you pan each sound hard left/hard right.  Ditto for a stereo piano that's accompanying an acoustic guitar - I'd rather run them in mono with some separation in the stereo field.

    This is very true.
     
    However, I will still record them in stereo and play around with the placement later on. Channel Tools is perfect for this
