X3 problem cutting a section out of all tracks

I'm attempting to shorten a song by cutting an eight bar section out of all tracks in a tune. It's all in 4/4 time. I do a select all and then select by time the eight bar section. Manually selecting using the mouse is the same. It works for the midi drum tracks, but not for the audio. For instance on the rhythm guitar track a strum that was on beat 2:00 is now at approximately 1:400. All the audio tracks are still in sync with each other, but they're now out of sync with the midi tracks. Any ideas?

Choose Edit > Cut Special, and make sure Delete Hole is checked.

Thank you, but I forgot to mention I'm already doing that, deleting the hole, trying the "Shift by whole measures option" as well but it's the same every time. I need to include the automation, so the cut special is needed of course.....

I still have X2 installed on my kitchen laptop and can't reproduce here. Obviously SONAR isn't supposed to work this way...is it just this one project?

If it's an isolated incident, maybe trying doing only the audio tracks, then doing only the MIDI tracks.

Do you have any tempo changes going on around the area where you are deleting? It's possible that some of those tempo changes don't make sense with your edits.

If this is the case, try adding a "dummy tempo change" just before and after the boundaries of your selection before deleting. These tempo changes should be the same value (hence "dummy") and must be applied at both ends of your selection.

Another option that's worked for me is to bounce all my clips together so that they are all the same length across all the tracks. That way the clips all adjust together when you edit them.

I wish Sonar would act the way I think it should when there are tempo changes underneath my deletions. But the above workarounds seem to suffice, albeit adding more work and less flow

So far it's just the one project. I've tried another project and it works as it should. I tried to do just one rhythm guitar track and it's still the same; in effect although I'm selecting exactly 8 bars to delete, it's deleting a little bit more.
I have an idea about what's happening:
This project is my second take of the song;I recorded it first at a different tempo, then decided I wanted to change the tempo. So I deleted all the audio take lanes, leaving the tracks empty, changing the tempo, saving it under a new filename, then re-recording the new audio parts at the new tempo. There are no tempo changes in the song; it's been changed through the tempo widget/thingy in the main X3 window.
I think X3 is "remembering" the tempo that the song was first recorded at for the audio tracks and cutting out a size that would have been correct for the original tempo but not for the current tempo.

Are you sure there are no tempo changes by checking the tempo map view? Look at the list of tempo changes in that view to convince yourself.

Another suggestion is that you do a "select all" (CTRL-A) and position the now marker in the timeline at one of your selection boundaries and split all the clips. Repeat this process at the other boundary. Then select those clips to be deleted and just remove them without doing any auto-shifting of the clips to the right. Check that your edits are okay and that the only issue is a gap in your audio playback back where the deletion has occurred. Now select all the clips to the right of your gap and manually drag them over to fill that gap.

I recommend that you do these steps with the snap on set to "measure". Good luck!

    Peter,
Thanks, that sounds like a potential work-around. I'm at work right now, so I'll see when I get home this evening.

Have you tried splitting ALL the clips at BOTH end of the 8 bar measure you want cutting out?

Not sure if it will help but you never know.

Peter, I checked the tempo map - no tempo changes in there. The splitting the clips solution worked; not exactly a solution but an effective work-around to a weird problem, Thanks

    Could this be a bug?
    Steps to recreate the problem:
1 - Record an audio track while playing along with a midi drum track
    2 - Delete the take
    3 - Change the tempo
4 - Record the part over again using the same track
5 - Select a number of bars in the middle and delete them using "Delete Special", deleting the hole
6 - Is the audio still in sync with the midi drums after the bar/measure where the deletion occurred?

I've not been able to reproduce the same problem in a new project using my above method. So I guess It'll remain a mystery, just a problem with one particular project...
