Take Lane Comping issue with grouped tracks - X3 - Solved

I have a track folder with 5 mics from the same guitar. I grouped them together. Then I set recording mode to Comping. I set it to loop and recorded 4 passes over the loop. So far so good. I have 4 takes in the take lanes. I select the Comping Tool. I go in to start stitching my comp together. But, I can't select the individual takes in the take lanes? How do I select the individual take lanes so that particular lane becomes the selected piece to go into the comp?

I hope I explained that well enough.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If I understand correctly, you have 5 tracks each with 4 takes/lanes ...

Are you trying to comp across track boundaries?  I'm not a comping tool expert, but your question has piqued my interest.

Using the smart tool hover it near the middle or bottom of the take. The cursor should turn to an "I" looking thing. You should then be able to click on one of the takes in any of the tracks and it will unmute that take and mute all the others. this should be mirrored in all the grouped tracks. You can also click and drag an area with the "I" cursor and that area will be split and unmuted in the take lane you dragged.

I'm running the Fractal Axe FX2. I've got 5 outputs running out of that. A wet left and right... 2 tracks with a different dry amp sim on each. Then the direct signal from the guitar for reamping later if need be. There are my five tracks. They reside in a track folder. I recorded 4 takes over a section in looped comping mode. So, there are 4 take lanes for each track.

In my initial test last night I recorded with them ungrouped. I started comping through one of the tracks thinking it was affecting all the tracks. I was feeling pretty excited about how slick it was compared to my old work flow. So, comping through a single track was working great.

Once I realized I was only editing one track, I searched on how to group them together. Create selection group from selected clips. I did that. All linked together - great. I click and drag across a take lane and it created the edit - great. The pain in the bottom starts where I'm wanting to go through and select the take I want for each section. I cannot select an individual take lane. The take lanes are all un-muted. Clicking on them with the Edit/Comping Tool does not select a take lane like it did before I Grouped the tracks together.

Is this a setting somewhere? Seems like this is what the whole Grouped Track thing was meant for? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I think I just figured it out... When I Grouped the clips, all of the take lanes were placed into the same Clip Group. So, it would then select or unselect them all instead of the individual Takes. So, had I recorded them grouped they would have been broken out into a separate group # per Track Lane. And just for anyone that groups a prerecorded group of tracks... make sure you select individual Track lanes for each Track and group them together.
