Some Of These Days

https://soundcloud.com/rebel007/some-of-these-days-070115a
I haven't posted for some time, but we've been fighting some health issues and they have been difficult to put away and get back to music. This is a regular song in our festival repertoire and is usually performed without the drums as our music concentrates on the interplay between the two vocals. I feel like the piano is sitting a little too far in front of the beat in this tune and I feel like I'm on a runaway train (it's not usually an issue when there's no drums). Is this too distracting for anyone else? Is there too much reverb on the track? It was a last minute decision and was kind of thrown on as an afterthought. I am also thinking of putting in a horn section with a Tenor Saxophone solo instead of the piano, thoughts? Does anyone feel there are any glaring mix mistakes that should be fixed? I will take the reverb off the master buss before it's mastered.
Thanks in advance for any criticisms and opinions. I am far too close to this song for there to be any good objectivity, so don't hold back.

It is a nice and engaging tune perhaps something to complement the piano lead would be nice.

On the mix it seems to lack air and sparkle if that make sense.

Sorry that you've had health problems, hope that behind you now.
Mix wise. Id bring the drums up and the vox up too. Some EQing needed and maybe some wide verb on a bus send and not on the master, this might help with the sparkle and width. At the moment I feel it's a bit flat.

I'd have to agree with the life and sparkle comments, I'll go over the EQ settings and try for that. Wookiee, I think that's why I was going for the Saxophone, to add to the oneness of the piano. I'll also try some different reverbs to try and get that perfect one. At the moment I've only got some slapback and that master bus reverb which is not working very well. The wide stereo reverb sounds like a good idea.

I like it. It has a "real" feel that serves it well IMHO.

    Sounds nice.
    Live gig sound.
Piano is too up front in mix.
Piano needs to wait for the drummer (the timekeeper).
    Needs some reverb on vox.
    Great song.
    Liked it a lot.

At first, I thought the piano was too up front, then I turned it up. Sounds pretty good like that. Feels very authentic.

Sounds good with the "live recording" vibe.   At low volume some things don't balance, i.e. the piano and snare drum.   I think if you push the piano back a hair and bring the rest of the drum kit up to match the volume of the snare (if possible) you will have a good live mix.

Hey, that was pretty cool!   I'm not sure I've heard anything of this style around here before.   I really liked it.

Mix-wise I'd agree with the above regarding piano/drums, but it's a minor point overall when compared to the performances.   Good stuff.
