[Solved] SONITUS FX Giving me weird problems
Hi Guys!! This is my first post here! Hope you can offer some advice/help!? I am having this weird problem where for some reason, whenever I try and use a "Sonitus FX" plugin, which comes free with my Sonar 8.5 studio, suddenly my BFD2 track starts dropping out certain drums!! It doesnt matter where I use it either! For this example I had all my channels sent to a master aux, and was attempting to just add some light compression/limiting with "Sonitus Multiband" but the second the plugin is called up, the drop outs start! So all of a sudden there will be a missing snare hit, then a missing kick drum etc etc, but if I delete the plugin, the drum tracks carries on normally without any dropouts! Does anybody know whats causing this or how to fix it? Thanks! Windows 7 Professional (64bit) Sonar 8.5 Studio BFD 2

Try increasing your latency.

My latency in Sonar is tied to my sound card buffer which I have to the max 4096 samples

You could try increasing the midi buffer a bit. I can't remember where that is in 8.5 but it shouldn't be hard to find. 4096 is a bit excessive for audio buffers. How old is your PC? What audio interface do you have?

Too high a buffer setting can be as bad as too little. Bring it down a lot and try say 512 or 256.

If you don't have a proper audio interface with ASIO drivers you may also run into audio issues.

Hi Guys! I am using a M-Audio Delta 1010lt I always set the buffer that high thinking its best for playback and mixing, and then swap it down to 128 for recording etc, If I go as low as 128 during playback of a whole mix, it will stutter etc My Rig is AMD FX8350 16GB Ram

It doesn't sound like a latency or audio buffer issue. The Sonitus effects are quite lightweight, which is one of their best features. They do have their bugs, but AFAIK this isn't one of them. When a software sampler drops notes, it's more likely to be a disk I/O problem than a CPU or MIDI buffering problem. Does the problem persist after freezing the drum track? (BTW, John is correct in saying very large buffers can cause problems. However, I would not consider 4096 to be "very" large. I ran my old MOTU at 4096 for years and never had an issue. My current interface only allows me to go up to 2048, else I'd likely still be running that way. Nevertheless, it's an easy experiment to see if a smaller buffer makes a difference.)
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I've had this problem with BFD. It's not related to the Sonitus effects, there are all kinds of ways you can generate this scenario. It's also not to do with audio latency, but rather with the MIDI playback buffer size. Go to Preferences > MIDI > Playback & Recording. In there, you'll see "Prepare using X millisecond buffers". This is the thing Karyn mentioned. I think by default it's 250, but I have mine at 500, specifically because of BFD.

Would you mind either marking John's 'change to 500' post as the Answer, or edit the subject line to add something like 'Solved'? Thanks, Bob Bone
