I don't mind dongles, but I don't like Pace. One of the reasons is right below...

bapuZDT for $30 a year compared to the cost of all the plugs that I own (that require iLok) is pittance.

I realize to some, it may not be pittance (lower plug to ZDT ratio) and I respect that.

While true, it's also a service that should be free of cost considering how much they are charging companies for their service to begin with. When a dongle fails for whatever reason, it's usually the company that makes the samples that end up getting the bad reputation which is not good for business (look how many people refuse to use EW products just because of iLok). Plus, I've heard nothing but nightmarish stories of people who do use Zero Downtime if something happened to their iLok. It seems it's more of a pain in the ass than it's worth.

The way Propellerhead handles the dongle for Reason is one of the only good things they have done in the past few years. More companies need to adopt it.

+1 on the ZDT issue.
And Props indeed allow for a "one computer" registration if you don't want to use the actual dongle. This is what iLok company Pace also offers through their iLok Manager, so maybe EastWest could follow suit.

The problem is their owner, Doug Rogers, is paranoid/ultra aggressive with regards to piracy. He doesn't seem to think his job is to maximize sales, he thinks his job is to try and stop the pirates and as such they are really hardcore about needing to have a dongle, with their own activation, and proprietary formats, and so on.

Maybe they'll loosen up, but I kinda doubt it.

So I am a huge EW fan... Ive used pianos since it was released.  I cant find anything that comes close.  8DIO has some great sounds as well, but their s/w is a complete disaster to use on a PC (perhaps it works better on a mac).

Weird segway sorry, has EW ever considered creating a pedal steel guitar sound?  Very few people have a high quality version of this?  Maybe its just too hard to make ...?

Yes there is no real EW pedal steel. There is a fine one however by Wavelore that I use. Be aware however that the developer is not always responsive, I think he perhaps has had some health issues.

Do you have any samples of it playing? I've never found one worth having.

I agree its excellent, but its a lap steel, not a peddle steel. The Wavelore instrument is very complex as you would expect. I have used it as an alternative lead but it requires an understanding of real instrument to have a chance of getting an authentic sound.

Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

There are samples on the site...right under the price...I think it sounds really nice,
but Glyn is right, it's a Lap Steel, not a Pedal...
