Is there a minimum time setting for Auto-save in X3e Producer?

Hi-

I set it to every 3 minutes because I've been having so many problems and didn't want to have to lose much, but it hasn't saved after at least 12 minutes. Is there a required minimum setting?

Thanks-

-Susan

Anyone?  I also tried setting it to "After 2 changes" and made several edits in PRV and nothing. Does Auto-save work for anyone?  If so, what's the trick?

    Thanks-

It works for me, I have it set for 5 minutes or 20 changes with versioning enabled set to 4 copies. I look in the myProject folder and see the autosave as "Auto-save Copy of myProject.cwp" and the 4 versions as myProject.cwp.~timestamp

    Hi scook-

Does the "dirty" asterisk * go away in the title bar? That's what I was looking for, but I'll check the project folder as well. Actually, I didn't have project versioning enabled; I thought that was a separate thing. I'll enable that.

    Thanks-

I don't take notice of the dirty flag but I just did a test, Auto save does not affect the dirty flag. Probably because the original file is still not saved. Only the auto save copy is saved with auto save.

Version is a separate thing. I use both in addition to CTRL+S and a belt and two pairs of suspenders approach to project protection.

LOL! I'll add that to my "all digits crossed" approach!

When you engage auto save for so many minutes and or edits those saves are performed in a new auto save version of your project not the file you are working on. That way if you have a crash 20 secs after the last auto save you can open the newest auto save file and have only lost 20 secs work if your original project has become corrupt because of the crash.

The "dirty" asterisk doesn't go away - so look for the files. I bet they're there ;-)

Soon you'll be extending the time between auto saves - because it gets annoying when a big file keeps pausing while it auto-saves.

I don't know what it considers a "change", but it racks them up pretty quickly.

good to see you again Susan!

    Hi mudgel-

Ah, okay. Works fine now that I know where to look!

    Hi John-

Thanks for the welcome back!  I never used to use A-S at all, but I've been having some problems with X3e so I thought it would be a good idea to help keep track of what I was doing.  I'm not sure what constitutes a change either, so I'm using a (very small) elapsed time for now on my (very small) test projects.

    Thanks again-

    Autosave works fine for me.
I also use versioning set to four copies and I'd recommend you to do this as well.
If feels safer to know that when Sonar saves, it doesn't save over the actual project file, but instead creates a copy of it.

If Sonar then crashes when auto-saving, your project file won't get corrupt. The latest auto-save-copy will and you'll have another earlier copy to go back to.
