When does the 12 months start?

What happens if I buy a pre order now and find out that I'll be happier if I wait to install until the first patch comes out?

When does the 12 months start? When I pay? When I activate?

Hows that work?

Thanks.

So if we purchase today, but you don't supply for a week, it starts a week after that?

Also If I purchase from a third party, does it go on that date, or the date I then register with cakewalk?

If I were to make a bet, the clock starts on third party purchases with the redemption date at this site https://www.cakewalk.com/Redeem

Ah, so I purchase from them, they redeem, clock starts, and they supply to me.

Or worse case scenario, they have pre-redeemed a stack and the clock has started.

In the past, the third party vendor supplied the purchaser the redemption code. It was up to the purchaser to redeem the product. I don't think this has changed. This makes gifting easy. I doubt the worst case scenario is likely.

Naa.. The clock probably starts when you do the purchase. You then need to pay for one year from this date to be able to keep it (if you choose to stop paying). If the clock would wait for an update to come before starting this would only mean you'd have to pay for a longer time before the keep-what-you've-got-date.

Ah.. That's a good question.. I would guess it's from the date they take your money though. Would be nice to know for sure however.

For everyone unhappy or uncertain, just wait a few months... clock will start then, and you'll have a couple more months in the subscription...the way I understand it, ya get 12 months from purchase point...

Or go the monthly plan for a month and convert to full pay after the month if you like the changes... you'll most likely loose the month paid but still get the discount and clock will start over (at least that's what I gleen from elsewhere.  Seems totally reasonable...

The day you purchase.

Thank you for the information.

Are you explaining that if I buy a preorder from one of your partner vendors today, my 12 months starts today? Even though I can't even download it until the predicted Jan 21 release?

What if the release is as smooth as the X1 release, which killed some peoples' (folks like me with ASIO hardware) computers (People had to use disc image restores or reinstall Windows to get the computers to work again), or X3 which seemed to require a quickly released hot patch before it was useful? Are you explaining that he clock is still ticking away while we wait?

It seems like starting the clock the day chosen to first activate would be a more valuable policy to an end user.

I intend to pay for 12 months up front... I was thinking I'd purchase today... but it seems like I may only get 11 months use out of my 12 month subscription.

Re: When does the 12 months start? 2015/01/15 07:56:37 (permalink)
That's a good question - especially if you buy from a 3rd part like Sweetwater to get the boxed version.

I've always gone thru CW download - so they of course know the instant you buy.  Will you enter your purchase date if you buy 3rd party or what?

Seems like it should be first activation - just mechanics wise - to really know when the clock starts.

Is 12 months starts when you pay not when you activate the final answer?

A preorder is not a purchase.  At least not the ones I've gone through.

Has anyone actually been charged for their preorder ?

If you buy through a third party, we don't start the 12 month period until you redeem at www.cakewalk.com/redeem

That action is what generates serial numbers, downloads, puts things in your account in command center and starts the clock.

If you buy through our store, the moment a transaction is approved and paid for it hits that same delivery system and starts the 12 months.

I purchased from Sweetwater Yesterday, but the item will not ship for weeks. So my 12 months starts today regardless?

Re: When does the 12 months start? 2015/01/16 05:53:47 (permalink)
keep reading, if it is a download http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3147803
The purchase of physical media upgrades from retailers has not been discussed but I would guess there is a redemption code used to activate physical media upgrades now or it may still use the old registration process (my money is on a redemption code though).

IOW, for the clock to start, there has to be some action associating your Cakewalk account to the purchase. There is no automatic update to your Cakewalk account for purchases made from retailers.

In the absence of this useful information I had elected to wait a while to make a purchase. Now I am back to feeling enthusiastic about making an imminent purchase.

So, no point in rushing into this, just wait until it's actually released.

But, I think I have to anyway, since I'm going with the payment plan.

I believe you will get sales and tech support from Guitar Center or Sweetwater. JRRShop is legit but I doubt you will get much more than transaction support from them. JRRShop will immediately refer you to Cakewalk for any questions regarding their products.
