Synth Racks

A common workflow is to combine several different synths playing the same part. For Sonar and other DAWs this means adding another synth, optionally sub-mixing it and then copying the midi track.
It would be nice to have a synth rack that you could use to add multiple synths to a single track. Reason does something like this with the Combinator.
Basically a synth rack would direct the MIDI input to all of the synths and then combine the audio outputs. This would allow you to treat more than one soft synth as a single composite synth. You'd probably want some way to send or not send things like automation to all the synths globally or to each synth individually as well as knobs to control the individual levels at the output.

I would certainly welcome MIDI output to more than one softsynth. I don't really see the Synth Rack as being particularly relevant here though. I would expect it to take the form of "MIDI send" as the way of adding extra outputs to a MIDI track.

On the other hand, this feature has been requested lots of times over the years and still never been implemented, so maybe it is less simple than we all imagine.

Not 'The Synth Rack' but a container you can add multiple synths to. I just used the term synth rack to describe the concept, nothing to do with the existing synth rack.

The point of that would be to allow the creation of macro knobs to simultaneously control parameters from multiple instruments. We can do this with FX Chains currently but this doesn't apply to synths and samplers. This is the biggest missing feature in Sonar right now in my opinion.

I am totally in agreement with you, Spencer. I just made a  suggestion to expand or replace ACT with something more useful like FLStudio's Control Surface.

There are VST sub-hosts/plug-ins that offer this (Chainer is an old one, I think Blue Cat do one too).

    Windows 7 x64 SP1
    SONAR x86/x64

    Intel Q6600/8GB
    MOTU UltraliteMk3 (USB/ASIO)
