Melodyne ARA in X3...
Hey I'm just now learning and using Melodyne inside Sonar X3 using the Region FX method with ARA and it's tres fab. One thing though. Once I've got a region the way I want it I can't figure out how to write the effect and move on to another region. In the old days I'd just choose "apply effect" and "delete FX from bin after applying" but now those are greyed out. How do I apply the effect??

I believe it's "bounce to clips" I can check when I get home, but you'll have 20 answers by then.

but.... be careful with FXs as some may bounce to the clip. I always melodyne on a 0db level track with no FXs anywhere (Pro Channel or FX bin). IOW I copy the original. Split into and work on smaller clips (always splitting orig and copied track). Replace orig track clips with completed melo clips.

I just added Melodyne as a "WaveEditor" to my SONAR Tools menu list yesterday. Now I can one click round trip out to Melodyne Edtor Freestanding and automatically replace any clip when I am done while enjoying the low impact performance of the free standing version at 64 sample buffer settings.

That's really clever, Mike. I would not like to see it fall through the forum cracks. If you post that in my Tip of the Week thread, I'll leave it in there as a guest tip and reference it on the first page. And I'll still do my regular tip.

Hi Craig, I'll do that this evening. I was adding some wave editors to the list yesterday when I got the bright idea... and what do you know? It actually worked. :-)

This process has been streamlined a bit in Platinum. See the documentation - there is a new render option which will render a region fx region. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Region_FX.01.html With the VocalSync region FX there is an explicit render button in the UI as well. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Region_FX.05.html There are also several under the hood fixes and enhancements to region fx across the board (melodyne, VocalSync and the upcoming drum replacer). For example the process by which region fx read audio data from tracks could potentially cause dropouts during playback. This has been addressed by some redesign of that logic. So it may not even be necessary to render a region fx in most circumstances. With VocalSync however you do need to render to get the highest quality... There are also some important changes to ARA that we have been working with Celemony on, that we can't talk about just yet but will become obvious in the upcoming months :)

FWIW, any program which takes a file name as an argument can be added as a WaveEditor type in the Tools menu.

It is the fact that Melodyne actually edits a .wav file that makes the round trip work out so well. ;-)

As opposed to how it works when I try to wave edit a .docx file. Miserable results.
