WARNING: UAD users and the new SONAR FALSE ALARM

The new Sonar has re-introduced the insert a UAD plugin while track is playing fiasco.  I can work around it but it sure was nice when this was fixed and you were able to do this on the FLY.  Last time, it was something between UAD and the Bakers... lots of banter back and forth on the cause.  but finally it was worked out between the two vendors....

This time, when I tried to insert/delete a UAD plugin on the fly... it totally took over the mouse pointer and I couldn't even navigate to END TASK, answer any dialog boxes etc.... forced me to do a HARD SHUTDOWN.

Like I said, not a show stopper just a interface behavior I have to manage again.  NOTE TO SELF: Stop the audio before editing inserts in a FX bin with UAD plugins.

Jim

PS - could be just my system but this was an old bug that appears to me to have snuck back into SONAR.

I'm always cautious about insertions with devices where you have to go outside SONAR to hardware, like UA, Duende, etc. I'll check this out and see what happens.

So, I guess I have a fast work pace... listening to a guitar track in the mix and thinking, man, would this sound good with an ECHOPLEX..... music playing.... move mouse to insert bin, pick fx... find the echoplex.. hit enter... DISASTER.... it was fixed in a previous release but it is happening to me again. Just x'plaining why I do this.

    Craig, thanks for following up.

No problem. But once you check out my Vintage Tape Echo FX chain, you might end up reaching for that instead...

Since BAPU tested this and could NOT duplicate it, I got brave and tried to duplicate it myself.... NADA, nothing, worked like a charm so, perhaps this was just a ONE UP kind of thing and NO WORRIES.  I will keep my fingers crossed.

    Thanks again BAPU.

    Mr. Anderton,

I did try your VINTAGE ECHO FX preset and I did like how it sounded but perhaps too good for the vintage vibe but definitely great for some RETRO PROG music.

    Keep em coming.

I was deleting UAD plugins (I had a stoopid amount of them in the bin to see how far I could stack FX) when I crashed SONAR Platinum.  So I would say that you have to be cautious when deleting the UAD plugins while playing back a track.

The only thing I would be worried about it turning on and off the UAD plugs while it is playing so I have an instant comparision.  I assume this is not a problem.  (The problem, if there is one, on inserting or removing the plug completely, not turning it on or off.)

My one time problem has disappeared but I was referencing inserting or deleting plugs in the FX rack while the project was playing and not turning it on and off or editing any of them knobs of the plug while audio was playing. So hopefully, this was a false alarm.

How about changing the thread title to something not quite so alarmist as you're the only one of us so far who's experinced this issue.

Some UAD effects are MUCH more power-hungry than others. Granted they're on a separate hardware card, but still...wonder if that makes any difference. Guess I'll give it a try.

BAPU, I actually tried to change the title by adding "False Alarm" to the end of it.... the forum software wacked out by SAFARI session by SAFARI losing focus instantly and I couldn't click on any control.

I will try again now and see if it happens, for perhaps this was a ONE UP only issue as well.
