Have lots of AD1 midi packs... do I need to upgrade them (79$!) for Addictive Drums 2?

Never bought into the Addictive Drums 2 upgrade... but do have a number of midi packs I got in their sale a year ago... do these work fine or do I have to spend the 79$ to "upgrade" them over on XLN?  Seems midi is midi!  Never bought any sound packs. Thus, the "upgrade" is really a ripoff for me as midi paks were cheap!

If this is so, I'll use the 3 freebees but never buy any more XLN paks...

you can also run AD1 and AD2 concurrently.  I think there is an option to upgrade all your AD1 packs for one price too.

Unfortunately you have to upgrade if you want to run them in one instance (AD2); but as Dub mentioned, you can run one instance of each. http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3138668

Yea, but it's $79!  I bought 6 or 7 AD1 midi packs for $70...crazy to spend even more than this to use in AD2... well, I sent um an email... if I have to "rebuy" the midi packs I'll just get the three and use other things and not buy into the company any more, which is what I said in the email... as it is, it is a huge freebe with platinum.

I was just curious... seems like the midi packs should work (it's MIDI!!!) and if not this was intentional...a not so nice thing to do...to users with a few packs like me.

Why do the midi packs have to be updated? New engine or something?

Toontracks didn't charge when they went to EZD2.

Glad I didn't get caught up in that company. I didn't like the way you had to connect to internet to authorize.

The upgrade to ad2 will give your 3 new drum kits plus making all your ad1adpaks or midipaks compatible. Ad2 sound quality is vastly superior. I am very happy with the upgrade. I actually bought the upgrade plus 1 adpaks and 1 kitpeice and midipaks for 119.

You can drag the midi grooves from AD1 into Sonar or directly into a Windows folder.  They'll be *.mid files.

    Edit :

    1. I'm presuming here that you can then drag them back into AD2, but haven't done it.
    2. I've dragged from AD2 and I'm presuming you can also do that from AD1.

So, I registered AD2 from the new SONAR.  I had full priced (outside of SONAR) AD1 and a ton of AD Paks.  When I registered, it let me pick three new AD2 ADPAKs.  But my AD1 AD Paks are still AD1 paks and I can't access them thru AD2.  I contacted XLN's support and asked how I get my AD1 Paks ported over to AD2.  I fear that they are going to tell me I have to pay something to make this happen?  One of the reasons for me to upgrade to SONAR platinum was the included AD2 which offset my upgrade price of $79 for AD2 from XLN.

If I still have to purchase the upgrade to get my AD1 packs to AD2 packs, I too will not be a happy camper.  The kits in BFD3 (not many yet) do sound much better to me anyway and I think I will abandon XLN, as well, if I am forced to pay the upgrade price just to get my AD PAKs retrograded.

Not a good business model IMHO.

    Just my 2 cents,
    Jim

You will have to upgrade to AD2. We all had to do the same last year. I believe I paid $99 for my AD2 upgrade which included Fairfax 1. This is still a great deal. You get AD2 and 3 kits free. You don't have to upgrade if you don't want to.

Clint. you get the Producers Bundle with SONAR Platinum (which includes all the freebies you mentioned).  If we have to buy the upgrade to retrograde our purchased existing ad1 paks, then the upgrade price will only add the value of the upgrade of our existing AD1 paks.

    Jim

PS - unless you saying that the upgrade will give us 3 more AD2 packs?

No. My upgrade only upgraded my existing AD1 content. At the time Fairfax 1 came with the upgrade. I'm not sure how that works now. Some people will get a better deal than others...that's for sure. Think of the people who bought everything from xln. They can't use their freebies at all. If I were you guys I would take the deal and make sure you get different content than you already own with AD1. Someday in the future you can upgrade that content for AD2 and get more bang for your buck.

If my memory is not slipping, the Fairfax 1 kit that came with the upgrade to AD2 was not the full kit. There were only enough kitpieces included to get a solid idea of the quality of the kit. That being said, I am waiting on Platinum to be released so I can get the Black Velvet, Fairfax 1 and 2 kits. I am a Superior Drummer 2 disciple but can't pass up this deal!
