AD Producer Bundle
I already have AD2 and both Fairfax 1 & 2; any suggestion on which kits left are a must have?

Hard part about that question is that the kits reflect you music tastes. I also have those kits, and not being a rocky type person, they are probably going to cover my rock needs. I was lucky with my upgrade to AD2 to get the session kits, but have supplimented these with the dry kit an the brush kit. I reckon the dry kit is work looking at if you like a rock sound, but want something different, but not if you want something harder. The demo with the brush kit includes a folk track, which even though I like jazz made me more comfortable going for them. hearing the same kit in a different context. There are a couple of kits that interest me, but nothing urgent. I have a some kitpeice credits on my XLN account, for when I decide what kit pieces to go for, so I think I will take the same approach with the credits I get from the platinum upgrade, just sit on them until I know more what I'm after. It will probably be Session percussion and Reel machines, leaving one more adpak Who know what XLN will do this year, maybe worth leaving a credit or two on your account in case something really interesting comes along.

Black Velvet, Indie, Funk...these are all good. I'm planning on adding Metal (it's a nice sounding kit, I don't play Metal). Fairfax 2 and Session Percussion. I like the Fairfax 1 and Black Velvet best.

I got the Session Perc and like it a lot. Got some of the new percussion kit pieces to go with it and they are all nice. I think you should get the midi to go with it too. I'm glad I went that direction. I know everyone likes the two Fairfax kits but I already have so many Gretch kits I haven't been able to make the leap. The Indie sounds interesting. The Jazz brushes always get my attention but then I feel like I would be buying a tool to use if someone pulls into the garage in a Yugo. Blue or Black Oyster; Bonham or Ringo. Getting the ones you need and keeping something in the bank might be the way to go.

How have you been using the session Percussion, as sounds to accompany and drum kit, or as the main kit? Did you go for the Kit Peice Pandeiro, is it much different from the Pandiero in the Session percussion?

Just noticed that XLN confirmed to me a couple of hours ago that they have more stuff planned for AD2 in 2015, but won't say what.

Those two were also my favorites from their demos and consequently the two I already own. I really don't know which 3 to go for with Platinum so I'm glad this thread exists. Like Kamikaze I may just wait it out a bit to make that decision.

I wrote to them too, after doing the Platinum preorder at JRR Shop (Thanks Clint- I'll buy the boxed later and come out about the same as Sweetwater deal but much sooner with the download option). I have AD2, Fairfax Vol 1 and 2 midi paks. Session Perc is one, I have some time to work out the others. I appreciate the feedback, though and will check those out first. Michael

Well, I opened up AD2 just to double check what I actually have and it turns out I have the Studio Bundle and Indy already as well. I guess that is narrowing me down to what is left. Right now I am definitely leaning towards Black Velvet and Vintage, but waiting for more replies to decide on a 3rd.

I just selected the two Jazz kits and the FUNK. The preset preview on FUNK sold me.

This worked out extremely well for me as I only have AD1 from a previous version of SONAR. I mainly play and record metal, but with Superior Drummer and a few packs I'm fairly well covered for that genre in both drums and MIDI, so I decided to indulge a few other styles in my choices: ADPAK: - Studio Rock
- Indie
- Fairfax Vol 1
KITPIECES: - Ludwig Supraphonic 402 Snare
- Premier Gen-X Bass Drum
- Sonor Designer Snare
MIDIPAK: - Reggae
- Punk Rock
- Blues
Pretty eclectic selection, don't you think

Does anyone know if the perc beats midipak is different than the midi that comes with the session perc adpak?

Yes, very nice! I've been on the XLN site for about 6 hours over the last 2 days because I only have AD1 and no other packs of any kind. I've listened to the demos ad-nauseam but am pretty damned impressed that these kits do all sound different. One of the hard things is I can hear a lot of "processing" within AD2 on the demos that have probably have skewed my decisions: (Full disclosure: I'm a rock-n-roll old-school pop guy who uses only RMX [with packs] and Session Drummer other than AD1.) ADPAK 1) Fairfax Vol. 1 2) Studio Pop This scares me because I tried like hell to like the Studio Rock kit better, and when I decided that Black Velvet just sounded a bit "muddy" to me, I realized my selections were not exemplifying my tastes. I though about Blue Oyster too, but for whatever reason I think I need this. 3) Indie (just because along with Fairfax & Vintage Dry it was my favorite demo.) KITPIECES I was really disappointed in the lack of selection, I had recommendations from a friend but only one was still available. 1) Ludwig Supraphonic 402 Snare (it really stands out). 2) Pearl Masterworks Snare (It does sound like something I don't have). 3) Cajon (Because I really liked the sound, and the bass drums didn't impress me, and I couldn't select a tom, cymbal or hi-hat.) MIDIPAKS 1) American Rock 2) Alt. Rock 3) Writers Block (Very highly recommended to me.) So I will think no longer about this for a long while. I will be getting more at some point.

I don't believe any midi comes adpaks. They may have a small sample or something, but not the entire thing.

Yeah, the midi always comes with Toontrack ezx's and they cost a lot less. I still like having both.

I've made the point to them that I would like it to be my complete percussion source, but lacking simple shakers mean loading something else for these thing. Shaker family i so large and they have nothing. Hopefully will see some kit pieces fill this slot this year when they go studio to records some more kits. ,

Yes, I was surprised by the limited number of kit pieces, and the lack of any of the shaker family is particularly surprising seeing that they've been a staple component of drum machines for a very long time. Fortunately Dim Pro covers many of the gaps.
