Saw this Musictech-review of newSonar, thanks to Choo Shi Hwei

Nice review... However, one of the cons:

"12-month membership renewal for new users to recieve app updates is expensive"
How does this even make sense?... How can a "new" user "renew" something?? -.-

It wrong,  simple as that.  New users pay the full purchase price upfront and get 12 months of updates,  or they pay monthly for 12 months and get the same.
It costs more in the long term to pay monthly, that is what the reviewer is referring to, but that is to be expected.  It's not a subscription, it's paying in monthly instalments.

Yeah, exactly.. It is wrong.. :/

If the reviewer is talking about monthly payments that doesn't come through clearly at all, since he/she is writing "12-month membership renewal". To me that sounds like a renewal of membership with another 12 months.

..Which isn't even possible if you're (like the statement also says) a "new" user.. :P

The link takes me to a review by Hollin Jones. And he doesn't mention it that way at all.

Has it already been edited?

While you are speaking with the publisher you might ask them to explain how Cakewalk's

if you only pay for 12 months you only get 12 months of updates subscription plan

compares to Cockos'

if you pay for a license we will give you several years (6 years and counting for people who bought Reaper v3) of updates without any further charges

customer satisfaction policy.

The pricing model has become crystal clear over the last few days. There was much disinformation when this first came out. I think there may still be more than what I have noticed because an "internal filter" many of us have developed. Anywho, thanks for the link.

It's Bass, not Bass.

Re: Saw this Musictech-review of newSonar, thanks to Choo Shi Hwei 2015/01/19 13:31:11 (permalink)
Sonar has basically become a "Club" ...that is the new paradigm...

Most interesting of note...same with X3, is the statement

"Flagship version adds content, not much in features, if that's
 an issue for you"

Seems to be the going trend with Cake...more 3rd part crap
means less work for the bakers...kinda sad really...and still charging
a premium price for the upgrade, which will be even more next year...

I've been listening to users gripe about the Staff View for YEARS...
and still NOTHING....also very sad.

I'm getting extremely disheartened by Cakewalk...
They have had every opportunity to "Carpe Diem" with
the X series and instead they've gone Carp fishing...
throwing us more 3rd party "Content" and not new features...
