AD2 users

A bit OT but AD2 comes with SONAR Platinum, which I am an early adopter and kinda am loving my MIDI life with he new SONAR.  I also kinda love the jazz sticks ad pak for AD1 but I also use the iMAP MIDI map for drumming (way ahead of its time with mapping out articulations on a standard keyboard that lets one play drums logically on a midi keyboard).. anyway, all my MIDI drum tracks use iMAP.  I created a map for AD1 and it doesn't show available in AD2.... I really don't want to spend a night re-creating the MIDI map so the big question is:  Does anyone know if there is a way to import an AD1 MIDI Map into AD2?  Please tell me there is a way.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

I don't think so. I get the feeling that while still usable AD 1 is dead and isolated by itself with its own ad packs and no way forward except with AD2. I hope I can be proved wrong because that would be great for AD 1 content.

The latest version of ToonTrack's EZPlayer Pro supports AD 2. I would think that you might be able to use that to map from AD 1 to AD 2. Haven't tried it though. It does iMap too.

Um, somewhat off-topic, but what is the "iMap MIDI map" ?

I'll take my answer online (i.e. if it takes a link to a competitor's web site... that will suffice) :-)

Bits and pieces plucked from the interwebz:

    iMap

iMap is a proprietary MIDI note mapping/drum kit layout scheme developed by Sonic Reality that facilitates improved live performance of drum kits via MIDI keyboard. iMap places drums in their most flexible and intuitive position, allowing each of the fingers on both hands independent and coordinated control over the sampled kit. With little practice, it is possible to lay down complete drum grooves in a single take that have incredible feel and groove. I-Map has left and right stick positions per drum as well as a variety of positions from center to edge to rim. It includes additional performance articulations you don’t often get from other drum products such as left and right keys for snare rolls, separate ghost notes, hat foot open, chokes, crashing rides and more.

You see the dilemma in the post describing iMAP.... try to read the drum articulations that need to be mapped to each key, even if I zoom it out before printing, it is very, very hard to read.  I think I have it as a drum map in SONAR though as well and if I go to PRV on a drum track using iMAP, it may be easier to read than the graphic so maybe it will only take me a half a night to recreate in AD2.

A real PITA though. I have a support question out to XLN and perhaps they can come up with a solution.

Thanks for the suggestions and info though,

Got it, thanks Don. I got used to XLN's default keyboard mapping, it works pretty well for me, so I probably won't explore this further, but thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

You know I've always wondered about this, what about left-handed drummers? Keyboards are handedness-agnostic (something I always thought was a little weird) but drums? It's the only thing I do left-handed (insert joke here), since I play guitar right-handed.

For drums with many articulations ableton push > all IMHO :)

So, you do realize that the layout you learn to play drums on a keyboard is hard to UNLEARN.  I had a real hard time to not play keyboard drums using the GMIDI layout once I moved to iMAP years ago.

There probably are better ones now but too much learning curve for me to switch.  I wish I could play real drums and I would just but some MIDI DRUM pads in a kit and play but I can't walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone have 4 of my appendages do different things at different times.  It confuses my simple mind.
