AD2 and step sequencer
Im kinda new to using instruments in Sonar. Im using AD2 and i have loaded a new drum into the kit and EQd it how i want etc... Now how do I get it to pop up over on the Step Sequencer? closest ive gotten is linking it to another drum but i want it seperate.

There are several ways to open the step sequencer and one that comes to mind ( not near computer) is to go to the top of the synth interface ( in this case Ad2) and click on the grid looking icon on top right. This should open step sequencer window that will likely open in multi-dock.

I know how to open the step sequencer, sorry if I didn't word my question right. IN the step sequencer there is the various instruments. How do I add a drum to that list of instruments within the step sequencer. Ive clicking the Add insturment. all it does it add whatever extra came with the kit and keeps duplicating the present instruments. I added a Drum to the Kit. I need to know how to Add that drum to the list in the sequencer. Thank you for your input I really do appreicate it.

the drum sound is tied to a midi note, so you need to add a row in the step sequencer and select the proper note. then you can rename the note into kick, snare etc.

I think I understand what you are asking. If you look to the left you will see notes (C3 or D3) look just a little to the right and you will see numbers. These numbers correspond with the different drum sounds. What you need is the AD2 drum map so that you will know what numbers correspond with what sound you are looking for. An example is that 36 is a bass drum or kick drum which ever term you prefer and 38 would be a snare. in the 50s are various sounds for hihat and 60's are the toms high 70s for cymbals etc. oh man, slow on the draw..............and I missed the post just above mine.

There is an old thread that goes over all the nuances of AD and step sequencers. It was geared towards AD1, but it sounds like the same issues apply. I will see if the search digs up anything.

I used to use a drum map in Step Sequencer, but Sonar acted a bit quirky for me when I did that, so I just mae a simple Word document with the various kit piece note numbers and note names, and over time I ended up just memorizing the note names for the various pieces, so while I still have it - I do not normally need to refer to it. If your midi data was created outside of Step Sequencer, and you want to edit it in Step Sequencer, I think if you right-click on the clip, one of the options is to convert/change to Step Sequencer clip. (you could also go the other way, converting from Step Sequencer clip to a regular midi clip)>

You could also build a track template with all the drum names in step sequencer (you can edit the note names) and then just insert that track template into your project when you want AD. As a bonus, you will be able to set your individual outs if you need to as well and get those too.
