Question about New Features

1) Mix Recall: can recalling be restricted to certain tracks? Just to try different Mixes for Vocals and Drums separately and try different Vocal Mixes with various Drums Mixes? Know what I mean? Or is "everything" recalled always?

2) pattern tool: does it work with audio, too? Select a part of an audio clip and pattern tool draw it repeatedly?

3) vocal sync: can it be used to tighten vocals to drums? Or does it only work on subtle timing differences of nearly the same material?

Thanks

You can mute or solo different tracks. This is for recalling a mix. You can pick about 10 or so different parameters.

Go here and look for Mix Recall.

You don't have to change every parameter. Eg. Change drum mix but leave vocal alone, change vocal mix leave drums alone. Do a snapshot of your current mix first as mix recall is not undoable.

Again for more details go to the online help I posted in the last post. There are also small videos of all the new features on the web site.

Yes. In Mix recall settings use the Track/Buss selection toggle to affect only selected tracks/busses. Note that this affects what is recalled not what is saved, which isn't quite the same thing. You can use this feature to easily combine the best part of multiple saved mixes. That's explained in the SWA Sonar 2015 new features video available from the CW store or SWA site. (Sorry - shameless plug there )

    2) pattern tool: does it work with audio, too? Select a part of an audio clip and pattern tool draw it repeatedly?

    No

    3) vocal sync: can it be used to tighten vocals to drums? Or does it only work on subtle timing differences of nearly the same material?
    Thanks

Not really, the material needs to be very similar to start with for the dub track to sync to the guide. Although designed for vocals it can be used on other material of a similar nature.

Actually, I think you could use vocal sync to tighten a vocal performance to the drums.  If the OP is trying to get the stressed syllables tight with the kick, he could use vocal sync to line up the the vocal with the peak of the kick (or have it lead or lag it depending on the tempo effect he is looking for).

There is only one way to know for sure - try it and let us know how it works out.
