Upgrading from X3 to Sonar Platinum - What, precisely do I need to download?

Sorry if this has already been addressed but I've just spent the last hour looking for the answer here.
Below is the list of products under the Sonar Platinum heading on the product download page. (I wanted to insert a screenshot but I don't know how!) I only bought and installed X3 in December so which of these must I re-install/update/download now that I have bought Platinum?
Thanks for any help.

I had the same question as you Percepto.....

I went ahead and installed everything in Command Center as I didn't want to miss out on any updates (when available)......since everything goes through the CC.

Everything ...

But dont bother with Dimension or rapture, you probably have those installed already with X3. TBH I dumped dimension - not using it, old and not updated much.

Maybe remove Additive Drums 1 that came with X3 producer and then install Additive Drums 2 instead. You could do this via the XLN Online installer in the XLN Folder in the Windows / All programs Menu.

Keep in mind - I think installing via CC defaults to the program files folder. I couldnt find any way of changing this via CC settings. If you want to install Sonar Platinum into another folder then go via downloading from your cakewalk account online, then install each item to the location of your choice ( in my case it was my D Drive ).

Thanks for the replies but I'm still confused!
It can't be that all the samples have to be re-installed, can it? Do I have to remove the old ones? I just don't want samples or data clogging up any of my drives when I will never need them again.
Thanks again in advance for any input.

Perhaps if someone from Cake could chime in and give us a list of what gets installed from each sub-selection in Command Center it would help us to determine what we need to select for installation and not install duplicate things we may have installed from previous versions of Sonar.

Cheers,
Lex

This page (scroll down) lists everything that comes with each version, divided into sections. The new items are marked "New".

If in doubt just install the content (not Sonar) in the same place you installed last time, that way you won't have two versions loaded.  You should use one common set of folders for VSTs and samples as good practise anyway.

Still no clear answer and no bakers helping out?
Surely this is not a difficult question to answer.
I don't think it is too much to expect clear and precise instructions and I don't seem to be the only one with this issue.
I actually expected to be flamed for asking a question that has already been answered!
Help, please...

My post above yours answers your question exactly.  The page I linked to lists the contents of each of the sections in the downloads.  Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Install the content in the same place as you did for previous versions and you'll not have duplicates.

I installed platinum, then AD2. My X3 had AD1 and that is still there .That is it.
If an X3 synth or FX is missing, add the path to the VST manager.
I was missing one thing, it may have been Melodyne.

Re: Upgrading from X3 to Sonar Platinum - What, precisely do I need to download? 2015/01/28 20:24:43 (permalink)
Ok, I had a look at SONAR X3 Reference Guide pages 1466 to 1469 that is a product comparison for the different versions of X3 and compared it to the link Karyn gave us.

If you compare Sonar Platinum to X3 Producer then "The Studio Mixing FX Suite" is the Nomad Factory Blue Tubes Bundle plus the Nomad Factory BlueVerb DRV-2080 from X3 Producer.

The other suites are all plugins that would have gotten installed with X3 Producer. Same with the ProChannel modules.

The X3 Reference Guide also shows the Loopmasters, Sample Magic & X-MiX Content Collection being standard although I don't remember installing these.

Same with the instruments. The were all included with X3 Producer except for AD2 (I did the upgrade path from AD1 to AD2 when I got X3).

Note that the items in bold are new to Platinum.

So as stated in another thread if you have the full install of X3 Producer you would only really need to install Sonar Platinum, the Anderton FX Chain Collection and the SONAR Help and Tutorials.

Hope this helps a bit more.

Cheers,
Lex

Re: Upgrading from X3 to Sonar Platinum - What, precisely do I need to download? 2015/01/29 13:47:33 (permalink)
Thanks for this, although I haven't seen this "stated in another thread". If this is definitely correct then it looks like i have nothing to worry about! Shame I wasted my time downloading everything though.
But...
It is still confusing, and obviously to more than just me! Others advised to install "everything" and to "Install the content in the same place as you did for previous versions and you'll not have duplicates."

Surely this is something that Cakewalk should have clearly informed us of? In fact, at this moment, I really regret spending the money on what appears to be "tweaks". That said, I can't really complain as I haven't installed it yet so I suppose I should reserve judgement until I see what it can do.

I also already have AD2 and I upgraded to Melodyne Editor so I will take your advice and just install the Anderton FX Chains and Help Files. Oh, and REmatrix Solo which is also new.

Thanks again for the input. (and Karyn for the link)

If someone already owns, for example, AD2, Lounge Lizard Full, Breverb Full, etc., are there any issues with things being replaced or just screwed up in general when doing an upgrade from X3PE to Platinum?

This is a valid request.  Clarity on install directions would be highly appreciated, even for something "straightforward" like the Braintree release.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Re: Upgrading from X3 to Sonar Platinum - What, precisely do I need to download? 2017/10/13 23:53:22 (permalink)
Well, I am  about 32 months late on this conversation.
I was searching to find out what the Classic FX were and how to use them, and it appears to me that the confusion is in how they are grouped/labeled

I found this
https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Plug-ins.2.html
to see the "Classic Plugins FX" - which makes it a bit of a hodgepodge as they are grouped but not easily identified.
That is an issue in how they are presented. There should be one name to represent them over time.

That may make the marketing team mad - but consistency in naming is key to having a solid product.

In my not so humble opinion.
