Please help with Sonar X3/Windows 8/Tascam US 1800 issue.

Please help with Sonar X3/Windows 8/Tascam US 1800 issue.

this is basically a copy and paste of a thread I posted in the Tascam forums. I also wanted it here because honestly this is the most helpful forum I have ever been on.

Like title says I am running Windows 8, my Tascam US 1800 is the interface and my DAW is Sonar X3. I have the latest driver installed for the 1800. When I set this up with my new PC Sonar would only see inputs Left, Right and Stereo on the 1800. When I changed the driver type in preferences in Sonar from mme to wdm and disabled the "realtech" audio driver in Windows i was finally able to get Sonar to see all of the inputs on the 1800 and actually get the latency to a useable level. The problem is now that I have it set that way I cannot use anything other than Sonar to play audio. I can't hear YouTube videos or stream anything from the internet and I cannot play audio on my PC through anything but Sonar. I am sure that there is a setting some where that I am just missing. I am hoping that someone here has had the same issue and/or knows what's going on.

    Hi Just a quick question.... Do you mean that you cant get audio from any other application regardless of whether sonar is running in the background or not?
     
    You could try checking the share driver with other programs box in sonar preferences
    Also whilst playing a youtube vid check your windows mixer settings and make sure nothing is wrong there like applications being muted for instance

    Now I am second guessing myself but I am going to say that's right. I will have to check when I get home tonight. I know it seems like I should just know that off the top of my head, but last night I was experimenting with so many different settings that it's a little hard to keep it all in line in my head right now. But I do feel that it did not work while sonar was not running.

    Try using ASIO mode in SONAR. Also make sure the Tascam is set as the default audio device in Windows. Failing that, it may be necessary to enable the "Share Drivers with Other Programs" option in Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording.

    I will try that. I did set the device as default in Windows that much I am 100% sure of.
