Updates?

Since the command center doesn't work, can I get my updates from the web?

Maybe he is referring to installing on a different HD? There was a thread about C3 not understanding that and creating a fresh install on C instead of an update of an installation on, say, D.

Installation destination selection (lack there of) kept me from using C3 for Platinum installation.  I'm hoping the old way will still be available forever.

Command Center will download the files but you don't have to use it to install them. You should find the files under Program Data Cakewalk Command Center Downloads.

And a nice feature that surprised me is "read me" files that show up during installation get downloaded to the "Downloads" folder.

OK, this is good news.  Now, how do I get C3 to be aware of everything I have installed?  I went thru the individual installers outside of C3.  How do I get it to check for updates for everything?  C3 does "recognize" the base installation, but not the sub-components.  Let me show a pic ... all of theses items are installed, but this is how C3 displays them:

I guess you don't understand. CCC is annoyingly bright and I can't use it because I can't see anything because it's so bright. I want to download the updates from the web and uninstall that ridiculous looking CCC.

I'm kinda curious about this as well. I don't have internet on my DAW. Do I just periodically have to download the whole Platinum program every time I want to get the updates?

Thats an issue I hadn't thought about. Sorry to hear you have vision issues. Perhaps CW will rethink how we get the new Sonar.  I like the CC but it is not perfect by any means.

My biggest issue with C3 is the lack of being able to install the program "wherever you want".  That's very poor.
Most installers allow you to pick where you want to install it to....so this "lack" in Command Center
is most annoying.  Even XLN realized this and finally gave an option of being able to install wherever
you wanted to install in an update to the XLN OI.

Well I guess it makes a change as people somwtimes complain that the Sonar interface is too dark..

You might want to put in a feature request to invert the colours as an option in the other forums...

Another oddity of the CCC is that it allows an alternate VST3 location. Not one other Plugin I've installed allows anything but the default Common Files/VST3 folder. No option.

Yo here are no alternate Sonar program install options or an option to download and not install. Another thing is that if you download and do your own install even to the default location the CCC does not know about it. The Native Instruments service centre is clever enough to know the currency of a plugin or program even if you install to a non default location and didn't use the Service Centre.

Another issue - So you download and manually install as opposed to going through CC.

Even if you uninstalled X3 its not enough - you have to go in and manually remove Sonar and Cakewalk items from the registry.

Why?

Because if you do not, one of the initial Platinum setup screens insists on putting the Shared Components in the previous folder where X3 had them. It greys out the field where the location is, the location c:\ ..... is unchangeable.  All fine if this is what you want but not so if you are installing platinum elsewhere eg on a new 2nd drive.

"Fix the CCC" implies that it is broken when the truth is it is simply not to your liking. CCC won't  win any beauty contests but using a white background with black text and a few splashes of color is very vanilla and probably easy on the eyes of most of the population. I empathize that you have an eye condition (I have one myself) , but the only fixing I expect is tweaks to functionality rather than a major overhaul to suit the needs of rare individuals.

Re: Updates? 2015/01/27 15:18:25 (permalink)
Simple fix.  Make colors and installation options completely user configurable  :)

BTW, I installed without CCC for destination flexibility.  The Sonar install and content installers automagically found the Cakewalk Content drive & folder I had previously setup - sweet!

The I installed Cakewalk Sound Center.  No options, no prompts ... tons of samples dumped onto the system drive.

I think this whole installation option thing needs a root canal and a fresh crown.  Right after the drum map root canal and crown  :)

Looking at the screenshot above I can't see how IE would be regarded as broken if it was on it's default display settings.

Anyway I threw in a feature request for you, vote on it if you like:
