Making Builds and drops

Hello everyone, i am trying to make some nice edm house music, i am having trouble in creating the builds and drops that help when transitioning into melodies and other fun stuff. I have Sonar Artist and i need help. So if anybody has some great detailed advice in creating the builds and drops that would be so helpful. It seems like im the only moron who can't do this.

I just searched youtube for "edm drop" and there are 152,000 hits.
Might be worth a few minutes watching some of them and listening.

There's also an interesting-looking book :  Dance Music Manual: Tools, Toys, and Techniques

The basics are pretty simple but making them sound great is another matter.

I agree that searching Youtube for tutorials will be your best bet. Also, make sure you are compiling and listening to a playlist of tracks that you like. Study them, it will take a while to get there but that's the only way to do it.

Well here's a free way to learn.
Listen, listen and listen to the music that inspires you. Listen to those sections that you would like to recreate. Start by observing what's going on using descriptive analysis. There are many things you could observe but here are a couple of questions that could get you started.
What are the elements that make up the arrangement?
What is going on rhythmically, melodically, harmonically in the different sections?
Just write down anything and everything you observe.

Another thing you could do is take 5 songs and just try to copy them as closely as possible. If you do this enough times, you will start to get a handle of what is going on. This is probably one of the ways you can learn how to do what you want to do. Copy the rhythm section, the melodies, the harmonies, the FX as closely as you can. Once you've worked on it enough, try it with another track. That would probably be the best way to learn.

There really are lots of youtube videos that show you how, for instance :  How to make a drop
    and How to build up/riser.

It's the pricinciples your after, not the specifics of how to do it in a particular daw.  Learn the principles by watching and listening to what others have done, then it's up to you to figure out how to do it in Sonar.  It would be pretty difficult to explain things through forum posts and I'm certainly not in a position to do so for lack of knowledge.

It looks like those into edm are mostly users of Live and FL Studio, but I don't see any reason why you can't use Sonar.  If you come across a particular thing you want to do, but can't figure out how in Sonar, that should be a pretty easy question to answer.  Asking how to create a riser is pretty broad.

You might also check out groove3 videos.  Here's one Producing EDM in Logic Pro X.  Not Sonar, but the principles will be the same.

Ok thank you Paul P. finally someone who gets the jist of what im trying to say. All i am asking is if we have the instruments and effects in Sonar Artists to make it. I am looking to try and make the White Noise one (Ableton) and I am just wondering if we have the tools in Sonar artist. By the way Adventure Club (EDM Duo) make music and remixes using Sonar. I have pretty much have watched every video on youtube but what good does it make if they are all using different software.

Keep in mind that I don't really know what I'm doing...

Taking this video as a starting point :

Building tension in a song before the drop - Ableton Live riser/build up tutorial

I don't see anything you can't do in Sonar, but I have no idea how familiar you are with Artist and you better learn the basics of that if you haven't already.   X3 videos would be close enough.

So you need some white noise.  Do you have any favourite synth already, or do you just have Artist and nothing else ?  All I can see in Artist is the Square I synth that has a noise generator : middle black knobs second row from the top.  Just turn up the "noise level".  Insert Square I as a Simple Instrument Track and in the Piano Roll View for the track draw in any note that lasts as long as you need.  Then use track automation to automate the volume of the noise just like in the video.  And another automation lane to control the filter in Square I.

You can use the Sonitus Compressor for the compressor.  Just insert it into the effets bin for you track.
    See Sidechaining in SONAR.

All DAWs do about the same things, so once you know Sonar well enough you won't have any trouble translating from another DAW.

Just because people are demonstrating concepts on other software doesn't mean you can't translate those concepts onto other pieces of software. I would definitely recommend that you get really familiar with what you have. Making builds and drops consists of so much more than just figuring out how to create a noise sweep.

SONAR Artist does seem a bit bare in the synthesizer department, but as Paul P mentioned, become familiar with what you have because it seems like the tool itself might be an obstacle at this point of the learning process.

Ok thank you guys soo much, and I really mean that. Its just been a little frustrating watching other people do it on other software where its a totally different ball game and trying to incorporate that in Sonar. I have watched a lot of videos and I also know how to do that in Ableton because I used to have the trial version and played a lot with it. Now that I have gotten this much information I will go ahead and try it and re-try again. I will also be installing rapture add ons coming up.

Now is the Synth Square I synth in the Cakewalk sound center or in the drop zone synth?

On my system (X3, but it should be the same for you) it's in the Browser under :

    PlugIns - Instruments - VST2

It is called "rgcAudio Square I (32-bit)".
