Do Addictive Drums 1&2 Co-exist?
Hi Gang...
I've got a bit to go before I diwnload and install AD2 and I'm wondering. Will they both (1&2) be available after installing AD2?
I have too many AD1 projects that I dont wish to foul...
Thanks! Keni

Hi Keni, Yes, you can use either one and both will be included in the XLN installer. However, you won't be able to use AD1 sounds in AD2 as they're different engines and you'll need to upgrade all your AD1 stuff to AD2 (if you choose to). I have the Black Velvet pack which was originally in AD1, but after getting the AD2 upgrade, they're both in there.

Thanks Mesh...
I'm still not certain I understand some of the related issues...
If I already have AD1 installed, must I download it again? Seems like an awful waste of download time for limited internet access situations such as mine...
I know they use different adpacks... Are you saying there's a way to convert AD1 kits to AD2 or simply that the same kits are available to both software versions? Funny I don't remember seeing a Black Velvet kit in the AD1 that came with Sonar Xx...?
I'm gonna have to find a way of demoing the adpacks and such... Offhand, do you know how large the kit downloads (adpacks) are?
TonIght will be another download night for me (I hope - got a short gig first)...
I'm not sure if much else is really needed. I don't recognize some of the extra packages but from the postings I've seen they seem to indicate that all else came with X3 except Craig's amp collection...?
Thanks again! Keni

I'm still confused about this myself. I don't have any ADPaks. I have AD1 with X3E, I have platinum with AD2. How do I get the default kits in AD1 into AD2? I'd prefer to abandon AD1 altogether... I haven't installed AD2 yet, too nervous. Have been reading the posts... Cheers..

Hey, Keni. AFAIK, you can pay to upgrade AD1 packs to AD2 packs. Unless you really need to, I wouldn't bother. I have AD1 and AD2 working side by side here - though I don't use either much. And yes, you only need to install Sonar Platinum and Anderton FX Chain Collection (and possibly Sonar Help & Tutorials - not sure). HTH Hope the gig went well..

From what i've read unless you purchase the AD1 to AD2 "upgrade", all the AD1 sounds will only be usable on AD1. AD2 that came with Platinum is the full version, NOT the upgrade version therefore all AD1 sounds will remain playable on AD1 only. The 2 platforms do however live happily side by side as mentioned and both can be used in a project simultaneously without issues. HTH

Thanks jb... I have no need to get the AD1 packs in AD2... I'm just trying to learn and understand... Funny, but my favorite all around kit uses Session Drummer 3 and a "minor" alteration to one of the Slate kits... I use his Old Zep Dry kit but I've replaced the kick with his sizzle dry kick... Works best for most of my work... I have used AD1 on a couple of projects... Frequently removing all AD processing and doing my own within Sonar... I imagine it will be much the same with AD2 unless one of their kits really strikes me... It's a fun and very thorough Drum system, but there are a few things I'm not fond of... Such as the overhead "track" which I find difficult to get my cymbals placed the way I would like... And the controls for volume/pan/width in general don't feel comfortable for me... But I get the job done... ;-) Keni BTW... The gig doesn't start for me until 7-7:30 this evening. Currently 4:40 here... And all I must do is setup one vocal mic and single monitor... Oh and also setting up two mini cams to video the show... I'll stay for the first set or there about and return to my live-in-freezer and darkness... Then wait until midnight to start some downloads...

Just to add..... I've written to XLN audio to see if there is a way for us Sonar AD2 users to migrate our AD1 sounds. Chances are the answer will be no, but it's worth asking. Stay tuned!

With Professional all I get is one pak, I chose the Rock Classic? and it's a dud. Not one good kick or snare sound in it so I guess for now I will return to Session drummer which I have many great sounding kits. Only thing that looks interesting is AD has a reverb built in which would be nice. So we can't load our own samples?? Also I was editing sound while Sonar was playing and my audio started stuttering??? So AD is not off to a good start for me.

Under settings maybe adjust MIDI Playback buffers (under MIDI playback and recording)? I think AD2 is a bit of a CPU hog by the look of it. That's just a first impression.

Very happy with Fairfax, Vintage Dry and modern jazz sticks. Happy with MIDI bundles American Rock, and Reel Machine Beats (really good!). Writers blocks sort of sucked, felt like there wasn't enough of them... Mind you will be playing my own loops I hope.

Yeah...
Which kits to pick is difficult for me... I hate selecting by name as there are so many opinions as to what type of sound is defined by a name...
I was hoping to find some way of hearing them before selecting... But the tone of the messages here makes me think otherwise...?
Well... It's a moot point for me right now as AD can't be downloaded to a different machine than its stall destination and last night I coyldnt get the DAW web connected... I've gotta fight with a wifi repeater to get connected to my neighbor's system and I just couldn't get it to connect last night... Yeah, that too... I can only do downloads after midnight and it's currently very cold in the studio by that time as well as me being tired and running my generator for too many hours... <sigh>... Life saga is never easy! ;-)

Keni - if you can download the AD2 demo first from XLN and you can hear audio clips of the different ADPaks. They will also offer to download a demo version of Fairfax 1 (minus some of the kit pieces) via the XLN installer. You can also hear samples of each kit piece and ADPak on their web site although I must admit some sounded better there than in the AD2 demo. I just uninstalled the demo and the demo Fairfax 1 before I entered my serial from Cake to choose my stuff.

I auditioned them all, twice, just to see what I would choose the day after my first impressions. I got Vintage Dry, Modern Jazz Brushes, and Session Percussion. I had already upgraded to AD2 and got Fairfax Vol 1 for an extra $10. I spent another hour this morning going through the PlatinumSamples demos of Steve Ferrone, and the country midi. They (PS) show how their stuff shows up in the AD2 panels. Looks good! Anyone using PS stuff in AD2? Michael

I almost went for the Fairfax but thought the Rock Classic would be the most generic. To bad I didn't pre view. I guess they have sales and special offers and I'll grab a few more down the road. It looks like it has a lot of editing options so this is all good. I'll get the hang of it. I think I can tweak the sounds a little. And whats with the Hi hats being on a different note from GM? I'm getting a rim shot on F#?? That sucks. Alex my Midi buffers are always at 1200. But you could be right. I figured this computer should never barf on one of my simple projects. I never go beyond 16 tracks ever and only 4 soft synths tops. Session drummer, True Piano, TTS-1 and sometimes Dim Pro. I might have 2 effects busses and a few Sonitus compressors. I haven't had audio issues since I ditched the Tascam us1641. so this freaked me out. So far working in Professional for me is absolutely no different than Studio. It looks the same and other than the buttons for Mix Recall I forget I upgraded.. Not complaining as I don't want to fall behind, but this is not at all like going from 8.5 to X3. Kinda anticlimactic.

Just out of curiosity, did you have the ProChannel before? That's one of the best parts of X... Some excellent plugins in an easy to use syste... The included pc76 compressor and Quad EQ alone are brilliant! Keni

Studio has Pro Channel. But some of the modules were missing as I expect they still are in Professional. That was always one of the few differences between the middle and top version. I'm not a huge user of those types of processing anyways. I try and capture the sounds properly and hopefully they don't need processing after the fact. I get by using the basic EQ that is in Pro Channel and using the Sonitus Compressor still.
