Using Synths and VST Instruments on Sonar

So, I started using Sonar Artists this week and I wanted to find out if we are able to download non-Cakewalk synths and vst instruments to use on Sonar to make our music? And if so, what is the process of doing it?

Sure.  Download and install the dll file in a folder that you have SONAR scan for synths.  Then have it scan, then use the browser to open the synth.  But Artist comes with a bunch of synths already.  Open Browser> Synths and you'll see them.

Are there any orchestra/strings and electric guitar plugins that anyone can suggest that's good to download for free online? I'm abit rusty on all of this so I'm trying to get back into the swing of everything.

Ugo Audio has free synths - tho not so much orchestra or guitar.  You would have to do a search.

Try http://www.kvraudio.com/ they have quite a range of free VST bits but orchestral VST tend to be real bucks if you want anything that is of any quality.

I've checked out Ugo Audio and found a few plugins on KVR (it's been forever since I was on that site). May download the Steinway Grand Piano expansion that's on here in a few weeks. Thanks, everyone!

If your new to all this, then the KVRAudio link is an excellent online resource. You may wish to try a copy of Computer Music which includes several VSTs on the supplied disc and some reasonable tutorials. A recent Back issue included a full version of Rapture.

Another option is to wait for a sale and pick up Dim Pro. I got it for $15 on sale. It certainly has a lot of instruments for the money. I think it's included with Platinum.
KVR is where I found all my freebies too.
