The Pugtones feature Eva on "PORCH SWING" (added lyric sheet 2-1-15) (PULLED 2-25-15)

I deleted the post and link here.  It was up for awhile and there were a lot of people that commented and I wanted them to know that we really appreciate everyone taking the time.  I've been a bit under the weather off and on this winter.  Fighting another slight heart blockage so I come up for awhile and get back into it and then down for a couple weeks.
I want to post another EVA tune.  I wanted everyone who commented to know that I'm sorry I didn't get to each one individually like I usually do.  Hopefully on the next one Eva sings called "The Dream".  My favorite of the tunes she did with us.  I'll post it this week, I hope!!  SOOOOO...DOWN THE BOARD THIS ONE GOES.

Eva Willingham- Lead Vocals
Mark Cline- Electric Guitar, Percussion and Engineering
Warren Willingham-Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica, BGV

                    PORCH SWING
Every day I walk this way beneath these old elm trees
I love to see the little houses set back from the street
It seems to be the only place I feel I can be me
No one judging no one pointing underneath these trees
And I see them every day, they look at me as if to say
  - I'm sittin' in my porch swing, waiting for a smile
won't you just stop and talk for a little while
I'm sittin' on my porch swing all day long
Waiting for someone like you to come along
   and talk to me-
I've lived for years and I have seen the things that people do
I've lived so long I've done so much I'll share it all with you
Please take the time I have no one to tell my stories to
I've been alone for many years and I'd love to talk to you
for awhile, just a while
Share your smile for awhile
-And we'll sit here on my porch swing, would you like some tea
or how bout some cookies dear while you talk to me
We're sittin' on my porch swing thank you for the smile
and stopping to talk to me for a little while-

The song is cool, super mellow. I appreciate the singer, I have rarely heard every syllable enunciated so clearly! The backing vocals truly fit what was going on. Maybe my internet barfed, but it just kind of cut off, did I miss the ending?

Super job panning those tom fills! I listened to it on headphones and enjoyed every fill! But I noticed the snare had kind of a slap reverb that came back on only one channel, which I found added a kind of "parking garage" effect, kind of distracting from the groove. Still, that's a personal mixing choice, so no biggie, I get those!

I thought the acoustic guitar gave it just the right groove, well done.

    Looking forward to more, thanks!

    cheers,
    -Tom

GPima(Robt)- Thanks for the listen and comments!
ESoul(Tom)- Very nice comments.  This is the only song that Mark ever built the drums to the guitar tracks I sent.  He usually does percussion first.  However, we have Warp Speed coming up and he did the same thing for that one.  He will read your suggestions and always listens so we appreciate it.  I just got a couple new mics for vocal and hopefully to beef my acoustic sounds.  Thanks for listening and the nice comments.  BTW this is not one of our cleanest endings.  So it was a mutual barf.

Prodwise I'd say the drums are spread nice but the guitars seem to be stepping on each other. They could be spread more. JMO.

    eva's got a great voice.

i love the mellow vibe of this song....
    nice chords and arrangement,
but i don't care for the 'beat turnaround' at the last section of the song,
didn't work for me, felt forced and not in the pocket.

i personally don't like the slapback (predelay) on the drums,
    especially on the snare....
    it's distracting the stereo field,
seems to throw it to the left... and seems to make the drums float over the music rather than be part of it.

i'd also prefer to hear more meat on the kick, to give it a bit more fullness....

but it's a nice song, those are just subjective mix suggestions.

Eva, Mark & Warren - this is great!

boy you've spread that drum kit out in the stereo field!  I'm not too fond of that myself, but eh...it's not a song killer!

I hadn't heard this tune in a long time. I think I probably would have mixed this differently today - but hey, it was a long time ago and I think the essence of this tune that Warren wrote was really cool.

We've recorded a few with Eva (Warren's sister) and she always sounds like a pro to me - love recording with her.

Thanks Warren for posting this - enjoyed.

Like the intro, answering guitars and the harmonica.

    The vocals very strong

Is there a piano in this, a nice tinkle on the right hand would go nice in the verse

Was expecting more of a punch for the chorus "sitting on my porche swing", driving bass and dirstorted bar chords, not too heavy, but to announce the chorus.

I too thought the delay on the snare hit, to messy for me.

Awesome work, the rest of the drums sound good and the bg harmonies aswell as the guitars are all ace.

    Drm-Thanks for listening and commenting.

Ed-Thanks.  Mark is checking all the mix suggestions.  This song is 6 or 7 years old, one our first together so I don't know that anything will change now.  They always come handy for the future.

Daryl- Thanks for listening and commenting.  You are putting out some nice stuff, buddy!

Rob- Thanks for listening and your suggestions.  Mark reads them all.  I don't know what you are talking about as far as the beat turnaround goes.  you know you have to talk slow when talking to me.  Chuckle.  Serioulsy, I've listened about 5 times to hear that and can't.  Can you give me a time?  Interesting.  Thanks, buddy.

Nice laid back song for a sunny day..... I love sitting on my porch swing with the dog, and a cool breeze, since that corner of the porch has a nice maple tree to shade it.....

I like the song.... and the mix was really 'present' if you know what I mean. Most of the instruments were nicely done, easy to hear, and had good tone.

My nits address 3 minor issues.

The bass could probably be dropped a few db and fit better. It seemed a bit heavy on my speakers.
The vox were a bit hard to pick out clearly in the beginning. Better as it went along.
The snare didn't sound like a snare.

All in all though.... a good mix and a good song.

What's not to like?  Good production, excellent guitar work, the lyrics express some great sentiments, the harp fits right in with the music and lyrics, the harmonies really sound nice, and the vocal is just excellent!  Oh ya, the guy playing the bass is doing a durn great job.  This is just a real nice, introspective, good day to feel good type of song.

I like it: quirky and retro in a good way. The echoed drums works well and I would be tempted to spread the vocals and guitar wider to match but either well and all round very nice.
