Export format

hey guys this might seem like a rather simple question on the export screen when selecting format the is there a difference between "Wave" and "WAV(microsoft)" they both have same extension. Just wondering if there's a difference. 
It seems that if i export the "WAVE" option rather than the "WAV(microsoft)" no media player is able to read it.

    If your having trouble playing them it's because you have not changed the 32 bit down to 16 bit. 
    I'm not sure why there is the WAV Microsoft option. The extension stays the same. I cannot see there would be a differance but I've never tried it. Why would I. 
     I've always used the default Wave at the top of the list. But for some reason the default is to 32 bit and this screws people up who are trying to burn a CD. It's a pet peeve of mine that you forever have to remember to change the 32 every time you re start Sonar.

    Ah yea i usually use the "WAV (microsoft)" option and i can leave it at 32 bit,64 bit or whatever etc... and it plays perfectly fine on anything. However when i use the Wave option it doesnt seem to work however i have not tried the 16bit part. However when i loaded the 64 bit "WAVE" into Sonar again to my mastering template it pulled up just fine.

    That's because Sonar and most wave editors can play any format. I'm not sure about WMP or iTunes. Just saying I've always used the default WAVE at the top of the list and I've always changed it to 16 bit because it's going to a CD. 
    I then master in Wave Lab before using Nero to burn it.
    I use Gold Wave to batch convert to MP3 160 or 320.  
    Sonar works in 32 bit so that's probably why the default.
